Please take a look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U4oeDKbbbQ which I really want to do using PowerDirector 12, but could not figure out how they did it. The author of this video used different program to create the first four clips with animated texts that I want to learn how to do it in PowerDirector 12. Would you please tell me that it can be done or how it was done in PowerDirector 12. Thanks and looking forward to hearing from anyone.

Thank you for your reply but it does not help me since I am just a newbie and need concrete steps. I have been watching tutorials but have not found any tutorial regarding on how to create animated text like the one mentioned in the youtube link. I need more help please.

Hi there, unless you're computer-shy, it should be relatively easy to achieve the same of very similar title effects as in the reference video. I trust you can find some useful tutorials on PDToots YouTube channel recommended by PlaySound. They're most helpful for beginners and advanced users alike...

To get started, just go to the Title Room: press F7 on your keyboard. You may want to "Create a new title template" by clicking on the corresponding button at the top of the Title Room window (small box with a plus sign); choose 2D Title.

One text box is already open with 'My Title' text in it. You can edit it as well as move around, resize and suchlike. Don't worry to explore all the features on the left hand side of the Title Designer window. You may want to use Character Presets on the Text Tab, for example, or specify your own title look using the other menu options on this tab.

For the text movement effects, you need to go to the other tab: Motion. There, you can select the starting and ending effects. You can change the timing aspects at bottom right. Also, notice that you can set different properties for each text box separately. To insert a new text box, use right clicking in the main window of the Title Designer (double clicking does the same, I think).

That's it, in a nutshell.

The first title in the video you provided the link to uses particles first (the disappearing stars), which seems to be possible right within the Title Designer ("Insert particle" button at the top of the main window) but I have no hands-on experience with this feature. Then the text fades in, which is one of the motion effects available on the Motion tab. The following two titles just use another motion effect; there are quite a few of those and you can check them by rolling over each of them to see what they do or look like.

You may feel overwhelmed by the number of possibilities and combinations thereof but I believe the user interface is fairly user friendly, providing intuitive guidance, and PowerDirector's main strength…

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide me with concrete steps in creating title effects. In reference to the first video clip where there is a small rectangular at the bottom of the still image on which a title effects appears...that throws me off. I was looking for something in PD12 to create such rectangular, but now I thinhk I understand how it was rather done outside of PD12 before importing into PD12. Your help is much appreciated. Right! The blue water rectangle is a still image used as the background. I don't know if you could achieve that in Title Designer (It seems to me you can't do that there) but a natural way is putting such an image to a lower video track to cover the video clip and to put the title even lower to be on top of this image. You basically need to edit the image outside PowerDirector for the correct size or download it somewhere (perhaps even a title template on DirectorZone).

The blue halo above the water photo might have been achived through using high setting of "Feather radius" on the Mask tab after choosing the rectangle mask, unchecking "Maintain mask aspect ratio" and resizing and moving a color board available in the Media Room (F3) after clicking on > on the left of the Media Library window but perhaps there's a better way. I would probably use Gimp or another similarly capable image editor outside PowerDirector again.

Well, I hope you can edit your video the way you want but sometimes things just take time to learn or tune up. Editing videos is potentially time-consuming in general. That's something to take into account…

Thanks for your forewarning, but I have all the time now since my retirement. I enjoy learning new things. Video editing is one of them. Thanks to you.
