Splitting 1hr 42 minute video into two videos
[Post New]
Hi again. I have just downloaded another video from YouTube and split it up into about 30 Chapters.
I then went to the nearest chapter to the centre and highlighted the remaining half and cut it thinking I could paste it onto a new Project. Aha! Not so! And why not so? It all seemed logical and easy enough to me.
Now all I have are the first 16 chapters or so on the original timeline.
Can anyone please help fairly quickly as I still have the remaining half on the clipboard (I hope) and would like to save/paste it into Part 2 of the Project.

Thanks,

Phil. Phil

Use Undo to reinstate the cut footage or paste it back if you can't Undo. Save it then save a second copy under a new name. This gives you two identical copies of the project. Load one, select and delete the second half of the timeline then save. Now load the other, select and delete the first half and save.

Mike,

Thanks for your help.

Yes I had already immediately tried the Undo function but it was not available for some reason.
I then tried to find the "Paste" function by right clicking on the screen but could not get that either.
I follow what you say after that but still need to get the missing half of the timeline back if I can.

Thanks again,

Hi Phil,

If you can't Undo it must be because you've saved the file after the cut.

Paste doesn't appear in the right-click menu on my version of PD (9). It's in the Edit menu or you can use the Ctrl/V keyboard shortcut. If you can't paste then the information is no longer in the clipboard. Your only hope then is to locate and load the autosaved file (assuming you have autosave enabled) and hope it hasn't done one since you did the cut.
Regards,
Mike

Mike,

Found it in the Autosaved file in 'C' drive, PowerDirector/10/autosave.

There were 4 of them so I went through each one and merged it with what was left before so now just have to add the Chapters and then follow your earlier instructions.

Thanks so much. Saved me a lot of repeat work.

In the future, try burning it to a dual layer DVD. It will hold the 1hr 42 minute video. (I'm always looking at alternates that reduce the workload !) .

Steve K,

Thanks for that too. I'll see if I can buy that type here.
If I can it will be, "Houston, we don't have a problem!"

Cheers,

Just make sure that your burner will burn double layer (plus or dash) - most newer burners will and make sure your DVD player will play them - they will because many (if not all) commercial movies are on double layer. .
