Black Preview (again) - Colour Boards

There's something totally ridiculous going on in PDR 13's preview render. Again & again, members have reported issues with timeline media appearing to be black/transparent without any user settings applied.

Just now it happened here with colour boards, and it's completely replicable.

Drop in a colour board - appears black (Henry Ford: Paint it any colour you like, as long as it's black) - repeat - repeat - repeat.

Until one of the colour boards is opened in Keyframe > Clip Attributes > Opacity, that's what happens. After that, newly inserted colour boards stand a good chance of looking like colour boards in the timeline.

It's great that we can import videos with alpha channel in PDR 13, but it would be more sensible if it didn't randomly interpret media as containing transparency!

Screen capture attached.

Cheers - Tony

I'm not having this issue. I tried it without any other videos in the timeline, with avi, wmv, mts and mpg.

What media did you have in your timeline? CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Thanks for checking Joe... & if someone else had made the same post two weeks ago, I probably would have replied with the same report (can't replicate it here).

My point is that it shouldn't be occurring in anyone's PDR no matter what other media is in the timeline!

The other media in the timeline? A few video clips (.MOV, .MPEG-4 & .MTS) and some .png files (overlays like the ones we discussed in another thread). I can replicate the same thing with nothing else in the timeline.

I've (randomly) had similar issues with .png files (logos etc) that appear to be set to 0% opacity when NO modifications have been made. That's both in the Preview window and PiP Designer... and the same sort of issue has been reported dozens of times in this forum.

Cheers - Tony

I completely agree.

I added mov, mts png... couldn't get your results.

Makes me wonder... is there is a difference in US based software and other countries??? I wouldn't think so.

If you can think of anything else I may do to help... just ask.

You showed exactly what happens here, after reopened a small project with many effects.

When starting a new project it's okay. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD

Yep, there it is...
I opened a project I've been working on, added a color board and got a black preview. Bam! Has anyone tried installing the Beta Patch? I'm not gonna.

To "fix it" I double-clicked, Checked Fades, Enable fade-in & Enable fade-out and then unchecked Fades. Took all of 4 seconds.

Ditto. The same here. Just inserting a black color board will trigger the problem. The part that peeves me is that if I go and produce the same project another time without changes to ANYTHING the problem disappears !!! I'm calling it the Halloween effect for now : boo, and it's gone.

HDedit -

Thanks for the confirmation - all I need to do is work out how to always be working on new projects that haven't been saved and closed.

Cheers - Tony

I'm not using any colorboards, yet I need to do the FADE workaround over and over. Methinks Cyberlink R & D needs to do more R and D before releasing. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

In addition to the transparent images, one I just did the FADE trick to, and cropped to 16:9, is now centered within my screen and has black bars all around it.
I must repeat my PD mantra...all I want for PD14 is PD13 but it all works as advertised.

Once we know the error is not so bad.
Reopened project, add the first photo click Keyframe / Clip Attribute / Opacity, does the trick.
Update 2319 corrected several errors not this, perhaps in the next. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
