Hi there,

I have PowerDirector 13 Ultimate but the highest resolution I can produce is 1080p. I simply don't have options for higher resolutions in any of the output formats. It is not a real issue for me but I do wonder why it could be so or how I could fix this. Any ideas or specific questions towards finding the cause of the issue appreciated…

Hi Jirka -

It's not the trial version, is it? The trial doesn't support 2K or 4K.

If not, did you possibly have the trial installed previously?

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your response. My PowerDirector is version 13, not the trial, while I upgraded it from 12, which I upgraded from 11, and I started with version 10. I think 4K should have been available in version 12, already, but it wasn't.

Could it have been a mistake that I didn't unistall previous versions when I upgraded, do you think? I don't exactly recall upgrading from 11 to 12 but now I didn't unistall 12 and still have it on my computer and I can even run it.

I also thought that perhaps running PowerDirector on a rather obsolete low-end machine could play its role (I still use Windows XP) and wonder if DxDiag.txt information could provide any clues.

I thought I could perhaps tweak it by editing the profile.ini file but I don't think I understand that mechanism well enough…

Hi Jirka -

No - the 4K options are also available in PDR12. I cannot see any reason why they're not available for you now. So - the 2K/4K options are available in PDR12 but not PDR13??? That's very strange.

I wouldn't think you've made a mistake. The different versions should reside happily together. Nor do I think it's related to your hardware (but I'm no expert on that sort of stuff).

You could create your own custom 2K/4K profiles, but you shouldn't have to!

Maybe just try a re-install of PDR13.

Cheers - Tony

Hi again,

I didn't have the 4K production capability in version 12 either. When I open the Quality Profile Setup dialog in any of the formats available, the video resolution options available stop at 1920×1080. Everything else seems to be working fine except that I had to figure out how to make all the different 'packs' available by moving them to the right folder manually.

I suppose now, also from what you write, that upgrading from a lower version is an administrational term while the higher version installation would work on a machine that had no prior versions installed on it making it safe to uninstall everything and install the latest purchased version anew. Probably worth giving it a try although I suspect some kind of a tweak approach might work as well, maybe through Windows registry…

It seems I was very very wrong

According to this - http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultimate/spec_en_AU.html - "2K/4K/3D video editing profile: Intel Corei7 or AMD FX series with 64 bit OS 6 GB RAM"

I should have checked before making bold statements.

Perhaps your hardware doesn't qualify.

Cheers - Tony

Hmm, the operating system appears to be the key culprit in the light of the requirements listed, which I never thought of checking before. Mea culpa! There are no mysteries, only ignorance…
