Hi, I am new to PDR 12 but not to video editing. I would like to take a clip, place it over another clip, push clip one back into a canted box, revealing clip 2 underneath. In Avid, you just layer the two, the keying is done automatically, I can't seem to get this to happen in PDR 12. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to get the reveal to happen? Which tracks should I put the two clips on? I know its a dumb newbie question, but bear with me, I'll get better I promise! Charles Emon Bush

Not sure I understand your problem right.
talves you did not realize that in PD12, the priority of the track is the opposite of other video editors.
The track below overrides the above.

Ooooh, I didn't realize this and it isn't made clear in the manual...at least I didn't see it. I will give this a shot and see what happens. Thanks so much for the advice! Charles Emon Bush

Great....works like a champ! I guess I need to experiment to do multiple receeding boxes, 1 over 2 over 3, etc. One more question. Are the effects 2D only? I didn't see a Z axis button and was wondering if I can tilt or cant the box containing the video so it isn't just stuck in the upper corner, but actually has depth. I know I'm asking a lot of inexpensive software but you never know 'till you ask

Is there a tutorial video somewhere that might show me more about these kinds of "floating box" effects? Thanks so much, and I'm sure I'll be back! Charles Emon Bush

Has a way of modifying an image directly into the preview, first select the clip in the timeline, the white balls appears on each side, drag to adjust. see the image.

So no actual Z axis, just a 2D tilt and skew? Charles Emon Bush

You are a big help...thank you!! I tried moving the white balls and that did the trick. I have a million questions...like, is there a way to copy the values from one key frame and paste those values into another key frame? In Avid, you just do a control C, then control V to paste, but that didn't work in PDR 12. Am I not doing it right? Thanks again! Charles Emon Bush

And...what are the blue squares, next to the little white balls for? Is there a mathematical way to enter values, so that everything stays accurate, rather than just eyeballing it. With most DVE's, the screen is a quadrant, with positive and negative values, allowing for data to be entered so that you get a mirror image, one box on the left, identical box on the right, and so on. You should already know how to use keyframes in PD12 is the same, select the clip appears the tool above the timeline buttons, click the keyframe button, then Clip Attributes, here you have accurate tools.

Copy / Paste, then you set a clip, right click to select, Copy Keiframes attributes, select other clips, right click Paste keyframes ....

Thanks but your answer is confusing. I do know how to use keyframes; I asked what the blue squares are for and how to copy individual key frame values to other discreet key frames, not how to copy to all keyframes. Pay attention to the questions, if you don't know how to help then shut the hell up. I've been editing video professionally for a very long time and I don't need any smart ass replies. Thank you very much. Charles Emon Bush

Hi Charles -

Let me tell you something that might help you past your unwarranted hostility. Playsound's native language is not English. For that reason it's very easy for your questions or his responses to be not completely understood. I can tell you with some confidence that he was not giving you a smart a** reply, & is genuinely trying to assist you with your many questions.

Fair enough - you've been editing professionally for some time & you're getting your head around a slightly different workflow. I'd humbly suggest that if you edit your post above into more polite terms, you're likely to get some excellent advice from forum members.

There you go. Fix your post & the rest of us will help playsound help you.

For example, the blue handles are freeform handles used for reshaping clips & images (shown in playsound's screenshot above). Here's how you can use it - http://youtu.be/fXS_I3Pn72s

Cheers - Tony

He's obviously a troll who came here looking to make trouble. Nobody sincerely looking for help would have posted something like that.

And if he really had editing experience, he would have simply tried playing with the blue squares and it would have become immediately obvious what they do. No, he came here to be a jerk, and he did so to a veteran member who tries to help people here every day and didn't deserve to be treated like that.

Again, I apologize to PlaySound and whoever's toes I may have stepped on, I will certainly try to maintain a professional attitude in the future. To those who helped, including PlaySound, thank you very much for your assistance.

And thank you, ynotfish, for pointing out the error of my ways. You are absolutely correct, my reply was harsh and unwarranted. Don't know what happened, I usually don't act that way on forums. Thanks again to all who helped. Charles Emon Bush
