Persistent trouble capturing from DVR

Need help - when trying to capture from DVR, all processes stop after pressing record button. I can see the program I'm trying to capture on my screen, then when I press record, the picture goes away but the audio continues. Then it records for 1 minute and 2 seconds, stops, then the screen grays out and all I can do is a hard shutdown of my computer and try to start the process over again. This is a persistent problem - can anyone help?

Is the DVR content copyrighted?

Are you trying to record from a HDMI output?

What Analog output does the DVR have?
If the only Analog output is Composite video (Yellow), Red and White Audio, that would be Standard Definition only (720x480).

Does the DVR have Component output? Red, Green, Blue. And Audio (Red and White)?
Is the Component output crippled? If it is you only get SD video 720x480 output.

Not copyrighted; no HDMI; etc.

I'm running the red, white and yellow into and ION Video to PC Box with a USB out that plugs into my computer.

I have this problems persistently, and usually, after several hours and multiple shutdowns and restarts, it magically records the program. This time, I've never been able to get PowerDirector to magically start.

The program I want to record is coming through into PowerDirector 11 OK - I can watch it and hear it playing in my program, so I know it's getting to my PD11.

But when I press the button to begin the record process, the picture goes away (I can still hear the audio) and the recording timer is counting seconds. But then, it stops at 1 minutes and 2 seconds, the screen grays outs, and no matter how long I wait, I cannot shut down the program or end the process in my computer. I have to do a hard shutdown, restart, and try the process again.

I finally downloaded a software program that comes with the ION, and it recorded fine. But, I bought PD11 and would like to be able to use it. I understand it's supposed to be a really good program, but it's been really crappy for me.

Hi, pj910!
It seems you have one part of your problem solved already. If you're using a third-party software to "capture" your content from the DVR, all you do now is simply import that captured content into your Power Director for editing purposes. This method would suffice until you've resolved your problems with capturing from DVR with Power Director. Can I assume you may be using PD12? Or is it an earlier version?

Cheers!
Neil Forbes.

Thanks for your response - I'm using PowerDirector 11.
