What is a very simple task in a $20 or even free audio editing software seems to be missing from an expensive AD4. Am I missing something? How can I split and save a long audio track into multiple audio files?

thanks,

I can split the file in the Mix room but can't find a way to save the separate files or for that matter to use the "split" file in any way other than as complete file. When I click produce I just get the original file.

Hello Jeff,

Welcome to the ADR forum.

You're right. That's a basic function of most audio editing software.

In ADR, it can be done under Edit - by selecting and removing sections - then producing. Under Mix (as you've found) the audio clip can be split. Once you've removed/deleted unwanted sections, you can produce to make a separate audio clip.

As far as I can see, there's no facility to "produce a range" as there is in PowerDirector.

If this is what I think your saying I had thought of this, but only as a very poor last resort. I have a file that runs 90 minutes that I want to break into 15 minute files. So I would need to cut and remove 75 minutes and produce the target 15 minutes then reload the 90 minute file and repeat???? The 90 minute file take a long time to load as do all the other steps.

In other free software I can just mark split points and click on export to multiple files all in a very short time...can I do this in AD?

thanks,

Hello Jeff,

To my knowledge, that cannot be done in ADR (to be fair, my knowledge isn't vast!) It would certainly be a good idea for the suggestion box!

I'm sorry it's messy & more simply achieved in other software, but ADR could do it a repetition of the split/remove/produce > UNDO (to undo the removal) process.

Perhaps you could send me a PM indicating the particular software you use that simply splits & renders portions of the audio.
