PD12 deletes some existing projects at exit!

Hi!

Have had this problem for a while. When I exit PowerDirector 12 (latest patch and one or two earlier) it deletes some of the projects in my project folder. I haven't been able to figure out why those specific projects are deleted. It's enough to just open and then close PD (without doing anything else) for it to delete the files. I copy them back and next time PD exits - it deletes the files.

Are there any debugging mode or detailed log for PD12? I just can't figure out why this happens. Interesting feature though...

I've tried to set the "number of recently used projects" to 0.

What does PD do after pressing the "x" to exit? Check if the current project has been changed since last save? On the other hand it deletes files even if I haven't opened a project since starting the program.

I think you must give exact details on what you are doing.

I have never had PowerDirector delete any projects on exit.

It does delete some temporary files on exit. But those are not Project files.

Maybe if you watch this tutorial you can see what you may be doing wrong.

It's enough to open PD, then close it - the files are deleted. I've set it not to open last project on startup and not to import the video samples that comes with PD.

I've been using PD since version "I can't even remember" but it only happens with version 12. Reinstalled PC for other reasons with W8.1 instead of W7 a while ago but I can't remember if I had the problem even before reinstallation.

First I thought it was projects created on earlier versions of PD, so I opened one at a time and saved it again in PD12 but it doesn't help.

Funny thing is that it always seems to delete 10 files

No, I do not have this problem with any other program, luckily.

Edit: it seems like it deletes the 10 oldest files

Edit2: confirmed, it deletes the 10 oldest projects in the projects folder upon exit!

What Projects folder?

What is the Hard Drive Address?
The only Project folder I know of is the one defined as the most recent projects opened.

That is controlled in Preferences > Projects.

File Menu:

These are not the actual project folders.

Where the projects are stored is where you put them on your hard drive. The folder it pointed to by the Preferences > File, Export folder.

Carl312: Yes, that projects folder (shown below your red rectangle) :

Even if I strongly doubt that it matters, the path is: E:\VideoCamClips\PowerDirector Projects

Even if I set the number of recent projects to show to 0 - it still deletes the 10 oldest projects. I tried that since I find it strange that the number 10 matches with this phenomenon.

Since it happens just when PD exits (watching the projects folder in the File Explorer) and only then, I still blame PD :

One doubts, because you create so many projects in just a folder.
PD12, only automatically deletes temporary files and projects autosave, it does after 30 days.
The Recent Files menu only shows the 10 most recent projects, can if I want to increase this number.
I always create a new folder for each project and parts, rarely more than 10 projects. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

Guess it should be possible to store all project files in a single folder (it's really just the project files and two subfolder containing some music and photos for some of the projects). I store the actual video clips elsewhere. Isn't that why there are a setting for "standard folder" for projects?

I've tried to turn off the feature that deletes temp files automatically but it doesn't change anything.

20 files and two folders within another folder isn't much to me :

The folder shown in Preferences / Projects / Browse
This contains the files (Auto Save Project), which makes PD, every 10 minutes.

You must specify a different folder when you save your new project.

Like I said I create a new folder for each event.
It has several projects that belong to the event, including videos, photos, audio .... all in the same folder.

What? That can't be where it's supposed to autosave a project - if so one would need to edit the setting for each project. Autosaving should of course be done to each project where ever it resides. Doesn't make sense. Or did I misunderstand you?

However, if I set the standard projects folder (that's the one it opens when you hit "open project") to something else - it doesn't delete my files since that particular folder is empty.

I've just about had it with Cyberlink and their buggy software. PDVD13 chopping like nothing else (PDVD 12 working just fine) and PD 12 deleting files (different computers). I've been an IT pro for the last 13 years and have never seen anything like this with weird bugs except for Oracle and their Java crap and Adobes Flash and Reader!

It is not where Powerdirector 12 is supposed to Auto Save Projects.

Default location:
Auto Save location for Powerdirector 12
It is a Hidden location. Change your Folder Options to show Hidden folders and files
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\12.0\AutoSave

Auto Save is a safety net.

It saves a backup Project file every 10 minutes if the default has not been changed.

If you are using good Project Management practice you would Save As a Project file as an incrementing number appended to the end of the Project filename.

Watch these Tutorials will demonstrate what I am talking about.
There is two parts. Link to second part is in the About.

When I installed PD12 the AutoSave folder really is [C: \ Users \ name-PC \ AppData \ Roaming \ CyberLink \ PowerDirector \ 12.0 \ AutoSave]

I moved to [F: \ PROJETOS_ PD12 \], this la files, AutoSave Project.

This folder has hundreds of saved files every 6 minutes or +, when I'm working on a project, and contains files of all projects in the period of one month.

Edit2: confirmed, it deletes the oldest 10 projects in the projects folder upon exit!

This is because you are saving your project in the Auto Save folder, PD deletes files older than 30 days, then every day you have deleted files that term expired 30 days

Some of the files that were not deleted we also older than one month (but newer than the ones deleted).

Doesn't feel very reliable with a program that deletes any files in a certain dir regardless if it is it's own temp files or not. The projects it deletes obviously has different names. Might be necessary to generate a checksum of every single dir when using Cyberlinks software just to make sure it haven't deleted anything it shouldn't :

Edit: and the files were deleted even if I disabled the auto delete of temp files.

Auto Save folder is of particular use of PD12, is only allowed to change the location and turn off auto save (not recommended).

In my case I changed the location to facilitate the search when needed.

PD12 has improved and I do not need to use this feature often as it was with PD11.

if you want to have only one folder for all your projects (not recommended)

Is that when you choose to do the Save Project As ..
PD12 remembers and will always save this.

In the next Save Project As .. opens the same folder, until you resolve to choose another folder.
