green screen lighting

I am setting up a green screen area in my basement. I have softbox lighting that is fluorescent 6500K for lighting the subject. Can I use 5000K for lighting the green screen or will the slight difference in color temperature cause a problem? 5000K lighting is inexpensive at Home Depot.

AS long as the background lighting is even, I wouldn't think it would make a difference as long as PD can key the color. Be careful not to let the 5000k light to spill onto the subject.

I use 5000k and a cloth screen, I think you should match your lights, but good placement may overcome that, and if using cloth muslin stretch it to eliminate ALL wrinkles. Use clothes line clips or Home Depot clips, tape, anything and grab yourself a can of fabric relaxer at Wallyworld. Watch a few youtube demos. Good luck.
PS: the New Blue chroma key pro plugin is outstanding.

I have only 1 softbox. It is an inexpensive one I got on Amazon from Limo Studio. The set up for green screen seems to be two lights on the screen and 3 for the talent.
Will an inexpensive light with a clip on spring work or will it leave too many hots spots? Do I need 5 light boxes?

thanks,

You'll have to experiment, placement is very important, you must eliminate nearly every shadow or the chroma key will see it as a different shade and make it difficult to key.
I must repeat my preference for the New Blue plug-in. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Hi Barry

Would you mind telling me what kind of lighting you are using? Are you using all light boxes?

I use "hard shell" lighting, basically shop-light style with plastic diffuser covers, Smith-Victor. I have 2 @10" (air-cushioned stands), 2 @6" (clamps), and a 4" hair light on a counter-weighted articulating arm. Photo sand bags are a good idea to prevent tip-overs.
They are all inexpensive and easy to set up.
There is a photo of one without the diffuser cover on my site.
