Burning Blu Ray file to Computer from my Project

Hello,

I took a look for this question in the forum but did not find any information; please show me the location of the information if this has already been answered.

I have a Project created using PD 12 and would like to be able to create a BD type file to my computer so that I could watch the Blu-ray on my computer without using a BD.

I tried but ended up with just a complete movie without chapters and starting menu.

Is there a way of doing this? I have not yet purchased a BD Burner and wanted to see if the burn is successful before making any "coasters"! LoL

Thanks in advance,

Stephen

Hi Stephen

Welcome to the forum

When you burn a BluRay all the information about the Movie, Chapters, BluRay Menu., Menu music etc is also burnt onto the disc.

You can obviously play this burnt BluRay disc on a computer to see all the above information.

However when you Produce a project using let's say the AVCHD profile you will only see the Movie. There are no Chapters, Menus etc etc.

Hope this helps

Neil,

I'm hoping to be able to create a usable Blu-ray file that would be viewed on my computer only. Not actually burning to a BD. Is there a way to create a file to be used on my computer that would capture all of the content like chapters etc?

Basically, creating a Blu-ray without the disk! LoL

I read somewhere about doing something like this first to increase the chances of a quality BD when the project is burnt to a BD.

I've tried the option to burn to a file in the (create disk) section and not to burn to disk.

Thanks for your support,

Stephen

TaiBo, just checking, but did you create the menus, chapters etc. first?

If so, when you are ready to burn your project from the Create Disc menu, click on Burn in 2D and then make sure the "Burn to disc" is unchecked, then check "Create a folder."

If that's what you tried doing the first time, it may be how you're trying to watch the video because the folder structure will contain everything that a BD disc needs to play.

To watch the video as if it's on a BR disc, you'll usually need to open the folder that you "burned" the BD files to in PD in your BR player app - don't try to play any of the files in the folder structure or it won't work correctly.

Neil, in VLC you need to use "Open Folder" not "Open File" or "Open Disc." I don't have PowerDVD so I don't know if there are similar options.

EDIT If you burned the BR to a folder called BR1 using PD, then open the BR1 folder in your Blu-Ray/DVD app. It should recognize the folder as a valid BR disc structure.
