Hello,

I am hoping to find out why I cant burn to disk using the AVI format but I can the MPEG 4. Any attempt with the AVI format leads to PD Live 12 just locking up and actually not starting the authoring process or burning to disk. I have tried a variety of different DVD disks and I cannot even burn to a folder using the AVI format.

My PD Live is version 12.0.293.0

Perhaps I need to provide more information to obtain some assistance.

Regards

That may be because the native format of the video on a DVD is MPEG2, the AVI may not convert.

AVI is a container, We don't know what the codec is in the AVI.
There are some codec's that Powerdirector does not support.

MP4 is a format that PowerDirector likes.

Thanks Carl312 I appreciate your prompt reply. I don't really understand the codec aspect but compatibility with PD is what I am seeking. The quality of MPEG4 seems fairly close to avi.

Explanation for Codec
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codec

The format of the videos on a DVD are MPEG-2 HQ.

MP4 has to be converted internally by Powerdirector to MPEG-2.
If you wanted the minimum conversions you would start with MPEG-2 720x480/576 at 8 Mbps.
480=NTSC
576=PAL

Hi Carl312, thanks again for your reply. I am now having trouble burning to MPEG-4, or MPEG-2 as some of my projects wont burn. These are projects with lots of editing on the speed, adding background color, etc. The following errors were reported on the Windows 7 MotionMenuGeneratior Application:

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Users\BTG\AppData\Local\Temp\WEREDC7.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
C:\Users\BTG\AppData\Local\Temp\WER898.tmp.appcompat.txt
C:\Users\BTG\AppData\Local\Temp\WERC03.tmp.mdmp

Any idea?

A couple of ideas.
1. Try Producing a Mpeg-2 HQ video in Produce.
2. In create Disk, After Clicking Burn in 2D, Check Burn Disk Folder, Uncheck Burn Disk. uncheck enable hardware encoder if checked.

If you get a successful burn creating a Disk Folder, you can then burn an actual disk using Disk Burning software. There is plenty of free disk burning software.
