FLV videos play with sound but no picture

In Windows 7 I'm trying the Trial version. I'm impressed - with MOV, MKV & MP4 playing very well - BUT - while some of my FLV files play well, the great majority play with sound but no picture.
All FLV videos play well in another video player I have.
How do I fix that - before I make a purchase decision?

I have the same problem. I told them a few weeks ago. Hope to see a patch soon.

Thanks. I'm glad to know that I'm not alone.

Meanwhile I have another older video player that plays FLV very well with the same features as PowerDVD 14, but it does not play other video formats well. So I'm able to get by in one program or the other.

Maybe after Apple virtually destroyed FLV in favor of MP4, Cyberlink thinks that FLV is not worth worrying about. But I'm sure that there are a lot of people like you & me who still have a lot of FLV files in their video Libraries.

I have video courses in FLV format, so I need to play them.

I also have a free video player that I use as backup for FLV.

I hope to see this solved soon.

I have not heard from Cyberlink in a while. How do I get back into the full thread so that I can Reply to their last message to me?

hi,
just and idea:
you might check the used video codec in your flv files - PowerDVD supports h.265 and h.264 but not h.263

Some of my FLVs use h264 codec and are playing well.

And some FLV have a strange codec named VP6F.

No problem. At least I know.

How do find the codec in an FLV file?

All I know is that my video converter in the Encoder box uses 'FLV Video' but H264 is available in a drop down menu.
I just converted a MOV file to FLV using H264, but it doesn't make any difference in the way that the FLV file plays in PowerDVD.

To find out the codec of a video, I usee Freemake Video Converter.

It's a simple freeware. It's shows you video and audio details.

I downloaded\installed Freemake Video Converter but I can't figure out how to use it to find the codecs in an existing FLV file.

I also use MediaInfo but that doesn't show codecs either.

Inport the video file in Freemake Video Converter.

Under the video name you'll see details in this order: video time, a small film icon with video codec, resolution, 4:3 or 16:9, bitrate, fps, then audio...

Thanks. When I open a MOV or MP4 file, it shows H264. When I open FLV files, they show FLV. Does that tell us anything?

Maybe you have a strange FLV.

When I open my FLV files, I can see if it has h.264 codec or other in it.

If it's just FLV and no codec...I don't know what to say. I'm not an expert in this area.

Actually I have one FLV file that does show H264 640 X 360 & it plays very well in PowerDVD.
Going from memory that was a MOV file from a friend's camera that I Edited\Converted & when I did that I must have had my Edit\Convert program set on H264 versus FLV Video. In all other Edits &\or Conversions I must have left the program set on FLV Video.
So I have learned something.
I will try running FLV files with FLV Video thru my Converter program set on H264 & see what comes out.

It did not work. It did produce a file that Freemake Video Converter identified as H264, but it still plays in PowerDVD with sound & no picture. Worse, in my original FLV player - Nero 9 Showtime - this new file plays just like in PowerDVD - sound, no picture.
So I have given up that idea.
But I'm not left out in the cold.
I can give a long story about how I got into this 'problem' in the first place - one key event being Apple virtually destroying the FLV format in favor of MP4 & YouTube changing from FLV to MP4.
In both the Nero Forum & this Forum, & in my own practical experience, I have learned a great deal.
So right now my routine will be ~
For all existing FLV files - play in Nero 9 Showtime.
For MOV & MP4 files - play in PowerDVD.
For all new Edits\Conversions - make sure my program's Encoder is set on H264 (no more FLV Video).

Yes, choose h264. It's a great codec for conversion vs quality.
