Specs for using PD12

Hi there,

Just been trying my new Canon HFR406, and VERY pleased with the results.

I don't have problems with PD12 as YET, although it took a while to produce & burn, but I can live with that. Also, with help on the forum, I have created a 16:9 version of a 4:3 clip (side bars blurred) and I have only made test DVD & Blu-ray Discs. They run for about 30 mins. We are off on a 6 week overseas holiday in about 55 days time, so will most likely have a "heap" of footage to edit when we get back. I am attaching the 32bit and 64 bit Dxdiag files. Would anyone be able to peruse them and advise. I know I only have 4GB memory installed. Will most likely get my Computer Tech son to up it a bit, but would like your opinion on the rest of the settings.

Ian26,

I have bad news, your computer is extremely weak.

You have a Dual core CPU running a slow 1.6 GHz. PD 12 needs at least a 4 core running about 3 GHz.
Your memory is only 4 GB, that is about half the amount of RAM needed on a 64 Bit system.

Powerdirector needs about 1 GB of dedicated Memory
Your graphics driver is way out of date.

You would not have a happy experience editing videos on that computer.

Carl is correct, mostly.
You'll see in my signature, my DM1 is almost EXACTLY your computer.
You'll be able to use a modest mix of 720 video, and photographs/images, music to create your HD videos, and nothing more than 10-15 minutes or you'll be tearing your hair out. Special FX will cripple it. I suggest staying with 720 output, or again, it will take forever. You'll find upping the RAM will help, and keeping your computer uncluttered can be helpful, too. I submit you can use PD, but your current rig is not really the best, I use my DM1 a lot as a secondary machine, and sometimes just for testing to answer threads, but I keep my media content reasonable, and I know what to expect for performance. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
