Automatically fade out background music, during a video playback on the timeline

Hi, I have a question about PowerDirector 11.
I have a lot a photos on my time line and some videos in between.
I added dedicated music as background in the music channel.
When the videos appear on the time line, I fade out the background music and at the end of the video I would like to restore the music.
I did this manually. Ok fine.
But now I changed the time line by adding new photos and videos and as a consequence, the fade in and fade out of the background music is not synchronised anymore.

Is there an option that the background music automatically fades out to zero and returns automatically at the end of the video?

PS. I checked a lot of PDtoots videos, checked the manuals, help files etc...

Hi Uncle Ben -

This screen capture should help. You can reset the fades right in the timeline.

Whoops - I used PD12. It's the same for PD11 anyway.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony,
thanks for the quick reply. What you explained in your video is exactly what I did so far, and that is what I want to avoid.
In your example, you have only one video, but on my time line I have over 40 short videos and I have to reset these all manually.
And, if I make a mistake , some where, i have to redo it.
This is the reasoning for my question.
Thanks again.

With other words, I would like that PD11 detects that there is a video on the time line and that the background will fade out automatically and returns with audio at the end of the video.
But I am afraid, it is not supported by PD.

I assume, I am not the first one with this "problem"

Anyhow, thanks for your advice.

You could produce each photo/music clip individually, complete with audio fades, then add them back into the timeline interspersed with videos as desired. Tedious.

Uncle Ben -

You may have come across another NLE that has a "Smart Mix" feature, which does the kind of thing you're talking about.

My workflow usually involves dropping in the "background" music last - then mixing audio levels... except when the music is the feature. I don't find it that much trouble to follow the procedure shown in the video (the one many of us probably apply).

Sorry - I must have read right past the word "automatically".

Cheers - Tony

Hi all,
thanks for your responses. It is clear that there is no such smart function in PD11.
I will start working on my DVD, as I did in the past (manually ) and explained in the video from Tony.

By the way, what does NLE mean?
(sorry for my poor english)

NLE = Non Linear Editing (like PD and other similar video editing software)

(it's also an acronym for an energy company in the Netherlands - Nederlandse Energie Maatschappij)

Cheers - Tony
