Would appreciate greatly help with this annoying problem I am encountering with PD6.00.1515 on Vista. When I start a new project, using the Aquarium.mpg video, by dragging it to the timeline, it does not show up on the preview window to the right of the screen. When I try to play it, there is audio. When I click on Trim or Multi Trim buttons and the clip opens in a seperate preview window the picture does appear and the video will play. Prior to dragging it to the timeline, I have set the aspect ratio of the project to 4:3 and checked that the TV format in Preferences is PAL (which is the same as the Aquarium.mpg video).

At this point, if I change the video aspect to 16:9 by going to the Edit menu and then saving the project and re-dragging the video onto the storyboard, it DOES display on the Preview Window. However, the next problem with doing is that if I exit the project (after saving it of course) and reopen it, I'm back to square 1 - a black preview window again.

Can someone PLEASE tell me what I'm doing wrong??????

Thanks very much in advance.

1. Update your build of PD5
http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download/patches_4_ENU.html
2. I don't know if your build is vista compatible.....
3. Update your graphic card drivers

That's all I can advise you on... as my brain is not reverse compatible - I use PD7.

Thanks very much for your reply. I've checked for vista compatibility and passed. Graphic card drivers are also up to date. Only thing left is to download the patch and hope for the best.

Interestingly enough, I checked my other laptop which has PD4 on it and running on XP, and I am having the same problem with it!!!

If the patch doesn't work I will just switch to another software, I think.

Thanks for your help,
S.

It is most likely graphics related.

I had the same problem in a desktop quad core and a graphics card with 256MB on board. When I changed to an Nvidia GeForce Nvidia 8800GT with 512MB on board the problem went away.

For what its worth, I seem to have had similar problems from time to time and particularly with .mov files. I usually find a reinstall cures the problem. I suspect that it is more obvious with .mov files because itunes and QT are frequently updated, whereas other codecs may not be. Just last week I had to reinstall as no .mov files could be imported/played or previewed.
Good luck Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. (see below)
