Has anyone tried to edit 4K video. How does it work? Are proxy files generated? Is it a nightmare-very slow-etc.

thanks, Windows 10 professional

Editing 4K files works to a degree.

But again your system needs to be up to it.
For short videos my system works. But anything longer and the system starts to slow down depending on how many transitions and effects and so on used. 4K will bring any older system to its knees.

There are 4K video clips floating around out there right now. Download some and try them out.
Also the Produced files are HUGE. Extra HD space is required.

okay.
I bought a galaxy note 3 for the 4K video and upgraded to PD12 for just that.
PD12 is faster than PD10 about 1/2 hour or more depending on length of the movie. average movie length at 10 min.
definitely need 16GB of memory and fast CPU period. my video card you ask? I have no idea because it just sits there looking pretty
according to GPU-Z(hardware acceleration turned on), I have Galaxy GeForce GTX 650 w 1GB. AMD 8320 CPU.

if you're doing just dice and splice then 10 min video will be rendered in 35 to 45 minutes.
if you have most video enhancements turned on then you're looking at about 2.5 to 3 hours of rendering time for 10 min video.
File size is about same as Note 3 takes it at 50Mb/sec, 1.67GB for 5 min video. both PD10 & PD12 output file size is about same.

PD10 rendered 4K video is recognized by PD12 but 2.5K video to YouTube.
PD12 rendered 4K video is a garbage to PD10 and 2.5K or 4K video to YouTube whenever YouTube feels like it.
Note 3 4K video is recognized by PD10, PD12, and YouTube.

PD10 & PD12 rendered 1080 FHD from the Note 3 4K video is recognized by YouTube as 1080 FHD.

well, this is my experience.
