Watch out for YouTube

Recently YouTube has been suspending channels that have been using PD for making tutorials on how to use PowerDirector. I know of at least 25 channels that have been suspended and all used PD, no copywrite issues or anything like that but for some reason they are on the hunt. It could very easily be some one who uses a different type of software and they are using the violations link and reporting it thus users are getting suspended. I am basing this on a friend who uses PD12 and had several tutorials on how to use the software in addition to videos on home repair ect... he appealed his suspension and after 8 days his channel was removed from suspension after they found no evidence of violations to the TOS, so more then likely someone is searching, finding and clicking the videos as such.
Just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention

Hi Goranimal52,

Have any of these 25 friends been using Smart Sound tracks in their productions? That is the only thing so far, that has thrown up a Youtube warning for me. That, and the fact that I notice that a lot of received comments are being marked as being Spam by someone. Not by me.

Perhaps it is possible, but as large as Youtube is, I find it hard to believe that one or two persons can start flagging certain channels, and that that would be enough for Youtube to take a channel down, because one or two persons sent a false flag to Youtube.
But I may be wrong, and I sure do feel sorry for those who erroneously do have their channels pulled for no "real" legitimate reason.

Maybe Cyberlink Corporate should look into this, as they are Youtube Partners, and because PD offers a direct upload to Youtube through PowerDirector.

Smart Sound is royalty free materials...so it should not be the root cause. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed. Yet, I have gotten "Matched Third Party" notices from Youtube that have required sending in a reply to contest the warning.
Smart Sound has been made and is aware of this "Matched Third Party" music issue.

SmartSound is royalty free for those who have purchased the license. But whoever is making challenges wouldn't know if a given YouTube account is linked to a legitimate purchaser.

Still, I'd be surprised if SmartSound is the reason for these challenges. I was under the impression that you would be given a chance to prove that you are a legit user rather than have your account yanked.

Hi Kevinv64,

Yes. I agree.

Assuming that they’re purchased, SmartSound files should not be the issue, as it is a legitimate use that Cyberlink endorses and includes as a plug-in, in it’s PD program.

And that’s what makes all this “suspended channels” stuff so egregious, if… Youtube channels that are using PowerDirector, or that make PowerDirector tutorials, are indeed being “specifically” targeted in the manner that the OP suggests or warns of.

If that's happening, shame on YouTube for being so reckless. Anyone could terrorize a lot of YouTube users if it's that easy to get them shut down.

Guys & Gal -

I've had plenty of videos that use purchased SmartSound music that have had notifications about "Third Party Content" (music). I've challenged every claim, & sent it all to the SS legal department.

Maybe this is related to the problem - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7IL2IumS3g - seems like a channel can be shut down with very little effort. Maybe that's what happened with Maliek's channel... and the 25 friends mentioned above.

Cheers - Tony

WOW!!! A great share ynotfish!

I almost skipped taking the time to click on the link and view the video.
BUT... having now watched it, I'd say that every one of our members here who have a Youtube channel,
and were forced to join the relatively new Google+, should definitely take the time to watch this video that Tony found and shared.

Everybody should read this information about Google Plus accounts.

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32046?hl=en

You cannot have two accounts with the same user name. It causes conflicts.
It is harder now that Google has their hand in so many pies.

I personally have not signed up for a Google Plus account. It is not something I want to do.

Edit: correct a word

Thanks for the info Tony & Carl.

If you want to use Youtube then Google now forces you to sign up for a Google+ account since they bought out Youtube.
I never use the Google+ account except to login and check email and YT videos.

As for the Third Party Matched content nonsense- it's a pain when third parties other than the owners of the rights or creators of the music flag your video. I have had to do what Tony has done to get them to back off. Otherwise they throw up their advertising on your video.

The more serious case is when they send a take down notice then that can lead to a strike. 3 Strikes and your account gets suspended and taken down. (At the moment I do not think that you generate a strike for Matched third party content- this just allows them to put up an advertising link to your video for "their" music which none of them even own! I hated having them do that to my videos so I would take them down. Even when I used classical music which is out of copyright. Someone in a different country can claim the music and my video will be blocked from being shown in that country.. it's a convoluted mess. I am seriously thinking of paying for a membership to Vimeo and be done with the Google stupidity.)

The theory that this is somehow related to the use of PowerDirector has a few holes in it, though I'm not casting doubt on Goranimal52's post. This issue appears to be quite widespread & is certainly tied up with Google/Google+.

Just a few things I've come across (admittedly using a Google search!):

Taken Down - http://youtu.be/hTBBBxVj3U4

On copyright - https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/youtube/zGaaVOw5mCw

FaceBook Vigilantes - https://www.facebook.com/ShutDownDRAsYouTubeChannel/info

Google Policies - https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2801973?hl=en

Downside of "free" internet source - http://ilocalsearch.net/youtube-shutting-down-channels

Rob - you're right - Vimeo's looking good! Who wants years of work going down the tube???

Thanks for the info and links guys. This is shocking and very worrying news.

Just to put my story accross.

I have even had third party content claims on sound effects I got from Freesound before!!! When they happened I thought what the heck, they are royalty free!!!

I have done like RobAC before and deleted videos with third party claims, which didn't have many views and had been uploaded for a long time.

One other thing I don't get about third party claims on You Tube is they always happen after at least 2 years of being uploaded, why don't they tell us within a month after uploading???

I personally only use sound effects and music if it's absolutely necessary. I have used royalty free music from Kevin MacLeod and Dan-o-song and touch wood have not had claims yet. They have some great tunes.

I refuse to use the Google+ account that Google forced on me on You Tube. I didn't want it in the first place. I reply to any comments and messages I want to reply to using my You Tube channel, but I don't go onto the actual Google+ account to do it.
