As I have recently purchased Powerdirector 12 I have some special deals available to me. However with P2GO, I can have it for the discounted price of $74.95 but to purchase it from the products page I can have it for 15% off at around $62. That's a huge saving to me of.....nothing at all!

He tried to say that he found the application cheaper on the online shop ($62), than on the special offer he received (probably via e-mail) as a valuable customer ($75).

Normally I wouldn't revive this old thread, but I experienced a similar thing.

If you have an older version (version 8 or 9) of Power2Go, you can get the upgrade for around $40. Look at the sales page and click on upgrade. If you have anythign older, you are better off paying for a new version with the Easter discount. (plus PhotoDSirector 5)

I agree, but that happened before and with another software than Power2Go.

But, I had a similar issue with Power2Go as well: I installed an OEM version of Power2Go which came with an Asus Blu-Ray burner. The program made me an offer to upgrade to Power2Go 9 Platinum. I clicked, buyed, and a day later when visiting Cyberlink site to buy PowerDVD, I found out that there was also available Power2Go 10 which I could upgrade to for a little extra fee.

Should I knew that, I would have chosen Power2Go 10 instead of 9, of course.

How long do you think that that software offer was stored in the box with the burner? It was probbaly a good deal when it was first insertted into the box but not as good a deal when you went to the on-line store.

It is somewhat like looking in an old newspaper for a product, buying it, and then going home to read the mail where the samew product was cheaper. Why didn't you go back to Cyberlink store, get a refund and then buy the new one? .

Your assumption is wrong. The offer was loaded online from cyberlink servers. All Cyberlink software do that. When you click on the offer (i.e. in the lower right corner for Power2Go 9) the program takes you online to the special page with the offer shown. If you never go online, the program will never show you any offer (except maybe the offers loaded previously when the computer was online at that time).

Now why the program offered me an upgrade to Power2Go 9 instead of 10 I don't know. It may be because Power2Go 10 was released just before and they didn't update the offers for OEM editions, or maybe because the program assumed that being an edition with many feature limits, the user might want to upgrade to the full version instead of a newer version.

But you may want to experiment this and see that, when special offers are available, accessing the site directly is more likely to give you a better offer than clicking on the upgrade button from within the software itself. This is either a bug, or a 'feature' into cyberlink's advantage.

LE: I didn't know at that time that I can get a refund. However, probably I wouldn't do that even if I knew, because:
1) Power2Go 9 was just fine for my needs (I upgraded just to be able to use the 'System Recovery' feature), though it would have been nice to know that I had other choices to go for;
2) I planned to wait a special offer to Power2Go 10 to buy it for another computer (which I did);
3) transfering money internationally back and forth implies some bank fees which means some extra money than I didn't want to loose to no end.
