Ghost / Transparent / Multiple Images

I am trying to show a spirit rising from a subject (body)...like in the movie Ghost, etc. I am using a static image of the talent laying on the ground that spans the time of both tracks, and then a separate and shorter track of the subject rising from their body. Transparency settings are at approx 60%. as you know, this makes both tracks transparent. What I want to do is have the body remain solid, and the "spirit" rising out of the body and walking away must remain transparent. Any thoughts how to do this? I've seen videos on youtube and same problem. When people do double images, both are transparent. Any help is appreciated!

In a test here, track one (background) remained full while track two (the ghost) became transparent - as plotted by the opacity keyframes set in track two's MODIFY window. No opacity mod was made to track one.

This appears to achieve what you have in mind.

Hi fire41fighter -

Is the attached clip the sort of thing you have in mind? (apart from the sitting up bit)

It pretty much uses the idea about opacity keyframes borgus1 put. The "ghost" clip is set 60% opacity & the other is left at 100%.

Cheers - Tony

Thanx for the replies! I have tried that, but it seems as though the 2nd track's transparency level effects teh first track (background) no matter what. I have the first track's transparency set at 100% continuous and the rising talent's set at 55%...but when track 2 fades out...track 1 becomes solid again. I can't figure out where I am going wrong...if I am...or is it just a quirk of PD 12?

Here is the clip I am working on.

Your video's looking great!

Without sitting in front of your project, it's hard to see what's going on, though it does figure that an overlaid track set at 55% opacity would kill off the clarity of the underlying clip.

Two ways to fix it at your end would be to
1. take a snapshot of the opening frame of the clip in Track 1
2. isolate the subject by making everything else transparent - save as .png

... then, either
1. use the snapshot as an overlay in Track 3, or
2. use the snapshot as an inverse mask on track 2

Either way, that guy laying on the ground will be 100% opaque.

This packed project shows the first option above, but you could easily remove the overlay & apply it as a mask on Track 2.

Thanks for all the info! I ended up using a software product I have called Spice Master and added a 3rd track with the body. I used an elliptical mask around the body. Check out the finished product:

I'll keep playing with Power Director...there must be some way so that the tracks are not inter-dependent. One would think this is an easy effect.

Thanks everyone!!!! I HIGHLY recommend the Pixelan software plug ins for PD 12! Tech support is fantastic!

I had to make some tweaks to the video, so it has a new address:

All -

Here is an effect that I am trying to get in PD 12, since I will be shooting some Victorian-era footage and I want to give it the "Deakinizer" (Roger Deakins) effect. This is more than just a blur. Any thoughts as to how to get the lens aberrations around the edges?

Yes -

Great work on the ghost effect & the whole video! If that was deliberate coat movement at 2:30, I like it! If it was coincidence, I like it too.

On your other question, perhaps one of the NewBlue Motion Effects (masked) might work for you.

Cheers - Tony
