PD7 Image Aspect Ratio Retention

PD7, version 1714

This appears to be another item that is not saved and recalled correctly when opening a PD7 pds file.

1) overall project is 16:9, it contains 16:9 video, 4:3 jpg's into slideshows
2) I have two jpg images in the timeline that have a 6:4 aspect ratio
3) I used set image stretch mode and used CLPV to stretch these two images to 16:9. All looks fine
4) save project and exit
5) open project and the two jpg's have reverted to 6:4 and when played I get black side bars.

It appears one needs to consistently set stretch mode on these images everytime I open the project. Anyone else seen similar issues?

Yes; always seems to revert to 'letterbox' format for jpg images

Seems to retain it for video clips though? I tried it with video from non wide-screen source and it retains the CLPV alteration.

Problem appears to be only with still images.

Was interested to see this feature as had not realised it existed!! Director Suite 365

Hi JL,

I cannot replicate your problem.
Power Director 7 Build 1714

Test 1
1. add 16:9 video to timeline
2. add six 4:3 aspect images to timeline, use set image mode and used CLPV to stretch to 16:9.
3. add two 6:4 images to timeline, use set image mode and used CLPV to stretch to 16:9
4. saved file and exited Power Director
5. Opened Power Director and opened saved file.
6. 16:9 aspect has been retained for all images.

Test 2
1. All as above but now make a slideshow of all images.
2. Save file and exit
3. Open PD and File
4. All images display correctly in slideshow.

Test3
1. As test 1, but make slideshow of 4:3 images only, leave the two 6:4 images as individual images
2. Save file and exit
3. Open PD and file
4. all images display correctly in slideshow as do the two 6:4 images

So in all 3 tests, images are displaying correctly as 16:9

Thanks for looking, I guess 2 out of 3 so far have issues. PD7 failed to maintain aspect ratios on all 3 of your tests for me. Even simplier than that for me,

1) put one cherry in the timeline of a 16:9 project
2) use CLPV to convert to 16:9
3) save and exit
4) open saved project and cherry image plays at 4:3

If one looks at pds file with notepad the words stretchmode appears twice and both set to
STRETCHMODE=""

Hi JL,

Thats interesting, if I open the .pds file with Notepad STRETCHMODE appears once, STRETCHMODE="PANOSTRETCH"

It may be time to call in the BIG GUN.......DAFYDD.....

I'm not sure that's the right keyword to be judged, it just looked like it might apply in this situation.

As you suggest maybe Dafydd will shed some light.

Jeff,

You may be right, but I think we are on the right track,

CLPV in Notepad shows as STRETCHMODE="PANOSTRETCH"

If you use 'Stretch clip to 16:9 aspect ratio' then in Notepad it displays STRETCHMODE="STRETCH"

The fact that your .pds file show nothing between " " could be the issue

Hi Jeff, Ed and Robert,

I went through this issue and followed your excellent instructions Jeff, I could NOT replicate initially. Only when I repeated everything and added two 3:2 jpegs to the the very beginning did I get the preview displaying the vertical bands.

The CPLV issue is similar to one I reported with PD6, so I was familiar with the non-retention of instructions and still image error display.

I've yet to look at the pds observation made by Robert - sorry I forgot to.

Info and this posting sent to RD CyberLink.

I should add that I've had a similar experience with a 16:9 video - also reported to RD - I sent off the pds in this instance.

Dafydd

PD7, Release 2105
It appears the retention issue was never corrected, at least for me.
1) set project aspect ratio to 16:9, NTSC
2) put 5 second black color board in timeline
3) put 5 second cherry, then lilly in the timeline and duplicate a few times so you have a total of 6 images
4) select first cherry and set aspect ratio to CLPV and apply to all images
5) select 6 picture images and create slideshow with normal style
6) play and all looks great
7) save file and quit
double click saved file to reload into PD7
9) slideshow has reverted back to original aspect ratio

Dafydd, Robert, does the CLPV aspect ratio retain for you in the above test?

Hi Jeff,

It is with deep regret that I confirm your findings, CLPV stretch mode is not retained, back to R & D I think after Dafydd has confirmed as well, the only difference in my test is that aspect ratio is 16:9 PAL

Hi Jeff and Robert,

I didn't check this one... basically I know how thorough both of you are. I immediately referred the post and instructions to CyberLink RD and it's now a confirmed bug.

Thank you Jeff for localising this one and Robert for confirming - brilliant.
