Rolling titles - can I limit to a specific area of the screen?

I want to have rolling text like ending credits, but limit how much of the screen they use. Basically, I have a text title at the top of the screen, and I don't want the scrolling text to roll over it.

Is there any way to do this?

Thanks!

You can do that by creating a clipping mask/key mask which runs over the layer of the scrolling text.

The mask needs to be blended from white to black and you place the blend point where you want your text to disappear (fades out).

If you are very artistic you could also have a blend point lower down so the scroll text appears then disappears (fades in/fades out).

Whichever colour you key out (black or white) is the transparent point where the scroll text shows through. A bit like having a curtain half open.

You could check the PDToots site for tutorials.
I haven't got one at the moment but that would be how I would do it.

I appreciate the tip. I'm brand new to PowerDirector. I;ve done all the usual things to try to figure out how to create or add a mask, but can't find it... Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks@!

Hi AZ_Jester -

Jimbo's onto it, and that suggestion would be the best way I could think of doing it.

Here are some examples I put together for a guy who had the same sort of question.

Some ways of doing it - http://youtu.be/BHhqPOKgZic
Using pre-production & scrolling credits (masked) - http://youtu.be/EvrzKs7kN08

Excellent - Thanks Jimbo and Tony!

Looks like the key to masking titles (credits) is producing them first as a separate video object and then applying the mask to that object in the timeline.

Makes sense when you think about it. Just couldn't get my head around not being able to do it in the titles object itself.

Hi.
I experimented a little with spicemaster plugin !
And, if you have it, it could be do what you want without pre rendering.
Just apply a spicemaster transition over the text clip( resizing transition to all clip lenght)
then choose in the spicemaster plugin a linear gradient!
and play with settings

Spice master do a great job in this ! Intel core i7 4770k nvidia GEforce gtx 760 win 7 64bit 16GB ram

Okay - one more question...

I tried producing the rolling credits and then layering them on top of my other video or pictures, and I can resize the window of the scrolling text... but is there any way to make the scrolling text transparent using this method?

I want the other video to show through the scrolling text...

Hey Luigi -

That sounds like an interesting idea! I made those other videos before Pixelan Plugins came along. Maybe you could post some further detail about how you achieved it. I'd appreciate it, anyway.

AZ_Jester -

Luigi's suggestion may work for you, & there certainly may be better ideas than this one... but it works.

It involves duplicating the main video clip & masking it. Rather than try to explain, here's a screen capture.

Hi ynotfish

I'm not so good in writing tutorials and screen capture !

I try to explain with two pictures, surely you are good enough to understand !

I'm not familiar with image hosting too, sorry Intel core i7 4770k nvidia GEforce gtx 760 win 7 64bit 16GB ram
