YouCam 6 - Can't share camera

I had this working with YouCam 5. Now I can't get it to work with YouCam 6.

  • I start YouCam. Everything is working fine.
  • I start Windows Live Movie Maker.
  • In the options of Windows Live Movie Maker, I select CyberLink Webcam Splitter 6.0.
  • When I try to record, Movie Maker says that it can't access the device because it is in use by another application.
  • If I start Movie Maker first, before I start YouCam 6, then YouCam complains that it can't access the camera because it is in use by another application.


  • Does anyone have any suggestions?

    1. Does the preview image work properly when only Movie Maker is launched?
    I want to check if the problem only happens when recording?

    2. Could you kindly help to check if the Webcam Splitter work properly or not first?
    Please help to download the software "AmCap" from following pathway:
    "https://www.dropbox.com/s/wv3hu05kb7pzwfr/AMCAP.EXE"
    And then try following steps:
    1) Launch AmCap.
    2) Select "CyberLink Webcam Splitter 6.0" from [Devices]
    3) Click "Preview" under [Options]
    And check if the preview image works properly.

    3. If the preview is OK.
    Please help to launch YouCam6 while "AmCap" is also launched.
    And check if both of the preview images work properly at the same time under "AmCap" and YouCam6.

    Movie Maker can access my webcam just fine, and show the preview. I did not mean to say that it has to be recording. It just has to be in webcam preview mode.

    I ran AmCap by itself. AmCap could connect to the webcam directly. It could not connect to the "CyberLink Webcam Splitter 6.0".

  • If I run AmCap before running YouCam, AmCap can connect to my webcam directly. YouCam can not connect to the webcam at all.
  • If I run YouCam before running AmCap, YouCam can connect to the webcam. AmCap cannot connect to either the splitter or to the webcam.


  • I used MovieMaker as an example because everyone has a copy of it. I have tried this with other programs, and the same thing happens. I cannot share the webcam.

    Please refer to my attachment and kindly help to provide the print screen of "Sound, video and game controllers" under "Device Manager".

    You could find "Device Manager" under "Control Panel -> View by large icons -> Device Manager", thanks.
