Does anyone have information on the max file size that can be used. I have an almost 17GB file that I would like to edit, but I get several files that is not the whole mpeg2 file. It is a 2 hour and 30 min video.
I appreciate any help.
Thank you
John

The Max file size is more dependant on what your computer can handle.

I have edited a single file about 12 GB. 2 Hours 36 Minutes. HD 1920x1080/30i @ 10 Mbps. Format H.264 .TS.

That sounds great but why.does the file not show up as a single file in PD?

If it is from a camera, many cameras break up the video into multiple chunks because of the FAT32 format of the SD card.

So if you import video from a camera, you get multiple chunks.

That is not a problem in Powerdirector, you just butt the pieces on the Timeline. They play and edit as one video.

My Canon camera makes 1.9 GB chunks. Each chunk is about 16 minutes.

I guess the file sizes depend on the software that created the recording.
Some Software makes one huge file, some software makes 1 or 2 GB chunks. Fat32 Disk format limits the max file to just under 4 GB.

If you can combine the pieces into one video, it makes no difference if the source is one video or multiple videos.

Thank you Carl.
I see what you were talking about. It seems very time intensive to edit the file (wanted to get all the commercials out and the editing is slow. Guess you need more power than I have. I got a SSD drive, 8 core cpu, 8GB Ram and 64 bit OS.

Video editing is the most demanding thing you can do with a computer.

It takes a lot of computer. Although your computer sounds like it should handle the video.
I do wonder about your SSD drive, If your SSD drive is small, that could be a bottleneck.

Powerdirector really needs at least 60 GB of free space on the C drive for breathing room. (Temporary files).

Regarding your editing approach, how exactly are you doing it? Using the multi trim option, splitting, or some other way. Ive found multi trim to be effective and fast for large recordings. Not sure what resolution you're running in the preview, though best not to run full HD unless you have a very powerful machine (GPU) so that could slow it down to.
