I have 2 open support ticket, but it's been lying there for a week now... When I want to cut my videos, the screen is black and you can only hear the sound!! I've installed the latest patch (3230), since I'm now working with Windows 8.1, but still doesn't work! Please help!

(plus... would you know how to select multiple videos without having to click on every single one of them?)

thanks!

Hi NadiaFilion123,
1. Please provide a sample video clip for testing - 5 seconds long and attach it to your reply post, link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/reply/0/30984.page
Point and record the video, then upload.
2. Information on the camera used please.
3. A diagnostic file, Part B in the guide, link: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24771.page
4. Click on one clip then Ctrl+A on your keyboard, to highlight all tracks.

With regard to selecting videos two possibilities -

1. Click into the video track and then press the CTRL+ A keys. This will select all the videos on the track but it will also select any linked audio.
2. If your timeline is sized so that you can see all the video clips then click in the timeline to the right of the last clip and hold your left mouse button down. Drag across all the clips still holding the left mouse button down.

I'm not quite sure what your problem is with regard to a black screen but if this is in the preview window then my first thought would be that you haven't got a video clip selected.

oops sorry Dafydd 8^)

Not a problem. I just went in and corrected a typo - saw you posted.

There has been problems with some video clips from a small group of video cameras - a while back. The clip when split into two leaves the latter half black. This is to do with the GOP pattern used to create the original video and nothing can be done to the actual clip. Re-rendering the clip resolves the issue. In this instance we need the clip to look at and for members to test.

HI NadiaFilion123,
Rather than use the Trim option, why not use "Split" - it's what most editors use.

Slow download of your file - get back to you after a while......

Hi
I could not replicate the issue you have in Trim Preview Screen. I have attached an image of a hack Adrian and I tried out some years ago - it might help here. You have to be comfortable and confident to go into the registry (search for RegEdit) to make the simple and small change. Any changes you make are at your own risk.

what is "split"?

not comfortable enough to play in my computer... I tried uninstalling the update of Windows 8.1, then uninstalling PD and reinstall, and still doesn't work.

I can't be the only one facing that issue. My computer is brand new

I have the same "black screen when played from timeline" issue having updated to Windows 8.1 My ticket has been going nowhere for 2 weeks - just repeated requests for DXdiag s and repeated confirmations that PS11 version and graphics drivers are up to date. Cyberlink clearly have an issue with W8.1 and haven't a clue how to fix it. In the meantime I've lost the opportunity for publish what would have been a great early season ski video. Not impressed.....

The only way for me was to go back to Windows 8. Cyberlink have no clue to do with this issue. Oh well, I guess every new Windows edition brings adjustments, so I will wait before going back to 8.1 again!! Now, everything works fine.

Not seeing that in 8.1 here. Reiterating two relatively simple procedures that you may want to try...

1. If running a NVidia-based video card with their very latest drivers, revert to 3.158.
http://geforce.com/drivers
Unless you are a gamer who needs specific functionality in later drivers, you should see no degradation.

2. Right-click START button, click RUN and type "regedit." (no quotes)
When the editor window appears, click the arrow to the left of HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Click the arrow to the left of "Software"
Click the arrow to the left of "Cyberlink"
Left-click on the "PowerDirector11" yellow folder
In the right-hand pane scroll down to "VideoRenderer" and double click it
In the VALUE DATA box, change the 7 to a 9, so it reads "VMR9" (no quotes)
Click on the OK button
Click on the red X at the top-right of the registry editor box

Note: Changes made to the registry take effect immediately, and mistakes can hose Windows.
You can reinstate the "WMR7" entry in the registry simply by following the same path.

If the 3.158 video driver does not suit your needs, roll back to the previous driver via Control Panel|
DEVICE MANAGER|DISPLAY ADAPTERS|<your display adapter>|DRIVERS tab|ROLL BACK button.

borgus1,
Thanks for these suggestions. I tried installing the Geforce 331.58 driver but for some reason it refused to proceed claiming that it couldn't find any compatible hardware. However - good news - the registry edit worked a treat and I'm now able to view videos from the timeline. Thanks very much for your help - seems odd that Cyberlink support didn't suggest this in the first place!
Thanks again and Happy Festive Season!

Every time I want to retrieve a past project, e.g one from 2 weeks ago, all I get is black frames in timeline. I have had to re install windows 10 since then. (clean reset.)Every time I try and retrieve a project I was working on, I get the correct frames on the time line but they are black. Every thing else is still there apart from the library pics and vids I used at the time. I have tried putting the correct pictures and video's in the library that I used at the time of making but still only black frames in time line, Can you help Please.

Thank you for you response above. I have been a loyal Power Director user since PD#8. The problem which I described in my original letter has happened to me so many times that it is driving me nuts. I have lost so many large projects which I had been working on for months when I pressed the save "project as button." Then trying to recover it only getting black squares is all described in my original letter. In your reply you suggest watching two videos on how to project manage this issue. I watched those two videos about 5 times now and still cant make any sense out of it. It is just too complicated for me to remember.

I can't believe with todays technology all the things I have to do to just save a project that I have been working months on. All other software has a simple "save as" command and you can start re-working on the project at a later date without totally loosing it. Please send a message to your software designers that the first thing any project (which takes so many man hours to work,) on has got to have a simple way of saving the project that you have spent weeks working on. The last of the two videos about packaging projects although a little easier to unserstasnd than the first solution video, but is still to complicated for me to follow. Please come up with a better solution to saving a project so that it can be rescued and worked on at a later date. I am going to have a look at divinci and adobe to see if they have a simpler way of saving projects. I just cant believe how complicated you have made a basic command to save a project for later work. I am just dumfounded. There has got to be a better way to do this that you software developers can come up with to save the project to a portable hard drive (Which is what I do) so that what ever happens to your computer or operating system, you can always rescue the previous project you were still working on.Please help me stay loyal to Cyberlink as I am sure your competitors must have an easier way of simply saving a project without having to start from scratch every time I have to reset my computer e.t.c.

I'm not sure why you're posting your very long (and triplicated) correspondence with tech support here on the user forum. Your empty timeline boxes are also entirely unrelated to this thread from 2013, and quoting existing posts while attaching your same content again is not helpful.

If you're seeing black (empty) content on the timeline, that simply means that PD can't find the clips in the same location where they were originally when you last saved the project. This will happen if you manually move the content, if a new OS install changes the drive letter or path to the directory, and if any of the content is located on removable media that is not connected when you open the project. None of those situations is the fault of PD or the developers.

You should get a "Browse/Ignore/Ignore All" prompt when PD can't find the files, and if you choose to browse and locate the new folder, PD will update the project and will retain the new locations once you save the project. That's a one-time step for each affected project.

As tech support pointed out, you can also pack the project materials into a single location that the related PDS project file will always be able to find, and again, that's a one time step to account for the changes you've made to your system.

@keving2

You previously posted on 4th Nov 2019 to a 2012 topic and after several replies and discussions in that topic, I locked the topic and sent you a PM on Nov 4th offering to assist, as it was clear that there was a degree of confusion in determining your position and requirements.

https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/23989.page#post_box_331803

I have not received any reply and your use of the forum to post, in an old 2013 topic, multiple identical mesasages that are unclear and confusing leads me to question your requirements.

I will lock this topic to prevent further confusion and re-iterate the offer made in a PM on Nov 4th to assist you. I would urge you to take up that offer as further postings of this nature in the forum may result in your membership being re-assessed.

Thank you.
