How do you speed up a PIP? as in same thing happens in 1 second instead of 10 seconds

Hi,

I have imported the "Stamper" std PIP in library, and enlarged the stamp, that was not hard. A rubber stamp takes about 1 second to use and the Stamper is 10 seconds to go down then up.

Have spent 2 hours just trying to speed it up, at least ten different ways. How do you time compress a PIP? Thought it would be as easy as grabbing one side and pushing towards the other.

Thanks in advance

Hi Tony,

That video helps. The Keyframes is quite complicated compared to most of PD. To speed it up it seems it takes like 10 steps and that is confusing to me because the modify screen for PIPs has 6 rows of keyframes and if you pull one to the left others show up from off the screen, and you can only do one row at a time. There is Opacity, Motion, etc. etc.

Is there no way to speed up an entire PIP? The Keyframes can do gazillion things with different objects in PIP separately but I want to just speed up the whole thing.

I see that the entire video can be speeded up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srMppm6WnUI So is it possible to put the PIP on timeline past the end, then speed up that video, then drop it back into timeline where you want it so it does not foul up the audio speed? Here is the PIP http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/detail/4785855

The Stamper does not move for like 7 seconds after it is down, and is too slow up and down.

Any help for this newbie greatly appreciated.

On the idea of speeding up at separate clip made out of a PIP it would work if I could do it. For this stamper I cut out 6.5 secs opf the 7 second down and motionless part. But the speed down and up is still too slow (1 sec each).

Help says

Select a media clip on the timeline and then select the Power Tools button to perform a range of powerful functions, including:
· Video/Audio Speed: select this option to change the speed of a video or audio clip. For an advanced slow motion effect, use the Slow motion video with frame interpolated technology* option. Select Stretch audio (between 2X and 0.5X only) to stretch the audio to match the new video's length. Deselect this option to mute the audio. You can also enter a new duration in New video length video to manually increase/reduce a video clip's speed.

Note: you can also hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and then click and drag the edge of a video or audio clip on the timeline to manually change its speed to fit your required duration.

I TRIED THE CTRL KEY IT JUST CUTS OFF THE CLIP, IT DOES NOT SPEED IT UP.

THERE IS NO POWER TOOLS BUTTON ON MY PD12 UNLIKE THE PD7 VIDEO SHOWS, I HAVE A DURATION BUTTON. Correction, this is edit. The PowerTools Button shows up if you are on a video clip that is not a PIP. It disappears on video that is purely a PIP, maybe I can work around this.

BUT THE DURATION ONLY ALLOWS ADJUSTMENT UNDER .28 SECS OR OVER 1.00 SEC, IT JUMPS .71 FOR SOME REASON BETWEEN 1.00 AND .28. SO SELCTED .27 SEC AND SEEMS TO HAVE NO EFFECT.

HELP DOES NOT SAY WHERE POWERTOOLS ARE.

Sorry to be having such big problems just trying to do something simple. Hope someone here will have patience with me.

Hi Darp -

It's OK. You don't need Power Tools or Video Speed - that's for video. Barry's stamper is just a picture. Image duration can be changed by dragging the end or clicking "Duration".

Only 2 things control the speed of a PiP Object:
a. the total duration
b. how close the keyframes are

Because Barry has already set keyframes for the stamper, and you want it to happen faster, here's what to do:

1. Before inserting the stamper, go to Preferences > Editing and change the Image Duration to (say) 3 seconds
2. Insert the stamper from your PiP Objects library (how does that look?)
- the problem with changing the duration after inserting is that it messes up the keyframes
3. Click modify and adjust the Motion keyframes' position

Hope that helps clarify.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony, I thought had responded before. I ended up buying a stamper from Pond5 that was rectangular and had a hand on it. It ended up being a snap to use. But in future still need to know more about key frames. Thanks
