I have High definition footage from a camcorder. What are the best settinsg to use when "producing" my final movie (BEFORE burning a disc)? MPEG 4?... MPEG2? And then what are the best settings (or advice) to choose when going to the Burn DVD step? I just want the best picture I can get in the end when played on a television. So far I burned a disc and it looked ok but some of the chapters the overall picture was "darker" than others. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated! dinopet

MPEG2, in my opinion, and you do know that a "normal" DVD is limited to SD (720x480)?
A blue Ray player can read AVCHD from a DVD disc, but I do not think that is what you are asking for. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

thanks for the reply. So it's not possible to get the 1080p HD picture on my DVD? I need to burn it for a Blu-Ray player to achieve that? dinopet

Correct. I am not sure if all BR players will play an AVC-HD DVD. It's different, I've never burned one, but PD can do it.
You can also put your HiDef file on a thumb drive if you have the ability to play it on your system. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

As Barry suggested, you can''t get high definition video on a standard DVD. You can on an AVCHD disc. I often burn AVCHD discs because I like to keep them short - 30-45 minutes or so or the audience gets bored. Double the time for a double layer disc (the disc, not the audience). For an AVCHD disc, you use a standard DVD (single or double layer) and a standard DVD burner (optical drive). They will play on MOST blu ray players but check the manual If you are not sure, post your player information and we can check. Of course they would play with your blu ray drive connected to a TV (with PowerDVD).

I also have the ability to burn blu ray discs if I want to put several different titles (video projects) on a disc. For that you need a blu ray player and blu ray discs. I have a $80 (US) Samsung USB connected blu ray burner for those discs. If you decide to go that way, make sure you don't by the cheapest discs and get a couple of rewritable discs to play with.

Regardless, for standard DVD or AVCHD discs, buy quality - do not buy store brands and not a manufacturer whose mane begins with "M". Verbatim and JVC Taiyo Youden (on line only) seem to be rated the best. .

Thanks Stevek,
I have a 30 min. movie, so maybe I'll just make an AVCHD of it with my DVD burner and a quality disc. At least it will make the best of the HD footage. dinopet

Let us know how it turns out. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Hi guys, I clicked on "burn" to make my DVD, and this message comes up:

"either a thumbnail (menu caption) or the navigation buttons are currently overlapping. Try adjusting them for the disc format."

....I never see this message when making a standard DVD. Does this message have something to do with the fact that I'm burning as an AVCHD? The settings Im using are "widescreen" and "HD 1920 X 1080".

I was advised making an AVCHD would be best to maintain my HD footage on the final DVD without having to burn to a Blu-Ray, which is why I'm using AVCHD.

Thanks again for (more) advice!
(I did post this as a new question in the forum, but figured you would know best). dinopet
