I have done a quick site search for removing wind noise but did not come up with much constructive advice. Seems to be some problems with 12.
I there a way to remove/reduce audio wind noise?
Thanks to all.

Drag a video into a timeline.
The "FIX/ENHANCE" button will appear.
Within that F/E module is an audio-denoise feature with a drop-down menu, including wind noise. Use it sparingly.
Also when you drag a video file into a timeline an EDIT AUDIO button appears. This is a more feature-filled audio tool, Wave Editor.
Cyberlink also has AudioDirector, a standalone program that is much more powerful for audio editing. Both WE and ADr integrate with PowerDirector quite nicely. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Once you record a video with a microphone that does not have a wind filter, you find it hard to remove the wind noise.

You can reduce the low frequencies in audio editors which helps, but you always mess up the audio.

It is best to not record wind noise in the first place.

Search the internet for Microphone Wind filters.

There is a company that makes wind noise filters for many microphones and cameras.
"The WindCutter" is the name.

Click on 'The Stick On' for wind filters on cameras.

This is an old problem.

As Carl mentioned there are stick on filters available or one can buy some material (EBay) as I did and use double sticky tape to apply it.

Quoting Carl:It is best to not record wind noise in the first place.

Testing is in front of a fan, while listening on a head set to the camera sound.

The difference is amazing approaching 20Db this is a reduction of app 90%. That is a 90% reduction in the threshold for wind noise!

Total cost less than $5.00 and lots of material left over.

I have videos of palm trees and bushes swaying in the wind, all you hear is the noise made by the trees, NO wind noise.

Perhaps someone can paste the picture in this reply.

I'm still on the hunt for quality VST's to plug into WE and ADr. Free would be preferable.
And I'm a bit puzzled as I cannot find the noise removal tools in AudioDirector at all. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Thanks all.
I will try the F/E module. It's amazing how much more noise the camera's mike picks up that the human ear filters out. Or maybe that's just a sign of getting older.

No, humans do not hear or notice the wind blowing in their ear.

A microphone on the other hand is not a human and cannot automatically filter out the wind noise.

You put a rough piece of cloth on the mic or a piece of foam rubber, the mic does not pick up the wind blowing across the mic element.

I have one of the WindCutter stick-on wind filters on my Canon camera. It really works.
I also have foam wind filters on my microphones. I often use the mics outside.

Wind noise is caused by air turbulence over the microphone surface, a mike in the shape of an ear? Just kidding.
My camera has a switchable 400Hz low pass filter. When dialog is important it can make a big difference and can reduce any residual background sound or wind noise. Rather than using the cameras 5 microphone "normal audio" I use 2 channel stereo only.
Usually I find that good solid audio is more difficult to get than good video. I do use an external directional mike at times.

Last year we had a big thunderstorm, very rare here in the desert, when I looked at the video there was no thunder!. I had turned on the LP filter to cut wind noise and the thunder was in that part of the spectrum. The missing thunder was replaced with sound effects gathered from the internet and was pretty impressive.

After that I put the wind screen on the camera. It supposedly transforms the wind energy into heat by tussling the fibers.
It is important that the fabric supporting the fibers is perforated, or a woven mesh, NOT a solid piece of cloth.

Nice Sunday or Monday to all.

Eugene

In the same position, will use a windcutter next time. I am recording drag races on an old airstrip. Wind noise has been my demon for the last few years. If I reduce wind noise in Wave Editor or anything else, it cuts the sounds of the cars passing as well. I have found adjusting the timeline bar of the actual audio file itself underneath the video file helpful. You can place key markers (just by clicking on the audioline) to lessen the sound altogether and gradually bring it up. Lowers ALL noise not just wind. I hope this is my last time dealing with wind.

As you have found, wind noise is best not recorded.

You put wind filters on your Microphones. The fur wind filters are the most effective. The foam filters do a very good job also.

There are stick-on filters for many Camera models also.
