one portion of my project accidentally got deleted when I was backing up/saving as... and now that part is only in earlier versions of my project... what's the best way to import the missing portion of project into the most updated version?

Save the old segment as a PDS file, if necessary.
In the newer project use FILE|INSERT PROJECT to revive the missing portion.
