Audio mastering in PD12

Hi. New guy with a quick question. I plan on editing videos onto stereo audio clips that need to be mastered. I've looked at a few forums and I'm not sure if Audio Director or Wave Director is set up to handle this process. In the past I have used audio software with VST mastering processing or other mastering products from Waves. Are PD12, AD4 set up for this or should I master my audio tracks before importing them into PS12 ?
Thanks for any help. Garrett W7 64bit SP1 Intel i7-4770k 2 3.5GHz 32 GB RAM NVIDIA GTX660 480 GB SSD 2000GB 7200 HDD x 2

Hello Garrett,

Welcome to the ADR forum

Having no direct experience with mastering, as such, I can only comment from a limited perspective. AudioDirector is not intended to be a fully fledged dedicated mastering suite, like other software you have mentioned, so any comparison would be unreasonable.

ADR makes use of VST so, in that sense, it's only limited by the quality of the plug-ins you import.

At the early stages of mastering, ADR's Mix Module provides a fair bit of scope for multi-track mixing. I can't say I've ever pushed it to its limits. You'd need to put it to the test yourself to see whether it meets your needs, which sound a bit "high end" from your description.

We all make use of a variety of tools to get the result we're after. The best I can suggest is to give it a shot.

Hi PIX,
Thanks for your input. What I trying to do isn't that exotic, I was just hoping to take care of all my needs under the Director Suite umbrella as I think it would be really great to have it all tied together. It may be that I just create the audio tracks and import them in PD12. Being new to ADR and PD12 I have some really silly simple questions. For example, is there a tutorial on downloading the VST plugins into ADR? Thanks again for your help! Hello Garrett,

This might help with installing VST plug-ins http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24693.page#134343

If you're not trying to do anything too exotic, ADR might well provide the tools you need. Perhaps if you post a little more detail about:
1. what your "raw material" is
2. what you want to do with it
members might be able to offer some guidance.

Barry - your idea is a good one, and we should make it a thread where everyone can make suggestions. Why don't you go ahead and make a new thread and we'll stick it at the top near the suggestion box?

That was tried at the release of PD11, but the thread went nowhere. Dead. Zippo. That's why I thought maybe I could list a few favorites on my site. DirectorZone might also be a good avenue for quality VSTs.

Thanks guys. My first use of PD12 is to create videos of rock bands form the late 60' thru early 80's The iniital products will be from my bands, so I have all the copyrights to videos, pix, and audio tracks so no worries there.
The audio sources are from open reel tapes and cassettes. Most of the stereo mixes were "demo" tapes and never properly "mastered" for release. I started working with WaveLab a few years back to bring the audio tapes back to life and it's very amazing what you can do today. I upgraded to W7 and the software didn't like it, then the rest of my life got in the way of this "hobby". I feel I have the time to work on this again so I got a new computer and am starting with PD12. I was hoping that the ADR might take care of my needs and keep everything in one place. If not, I can upgrade to WaveLab 8, work there and import the stereo tracks to PD12.
The VST plugins have by now certainly been upgraded but I used mostly MultBand Compressor, Stereo Expander, Q, VST Dynamics.
I originally was using a Yamaha 16 track work station that sounds great but Yamaha doesn't support it and it doesn't interface with computers ( not a good thing in 2013)
Once again thanks for you help. I'm tryng to get a process in place before I invest a lot of time in editing and these forums are a big help. Gasrrett W7 64bit SP1 Intel i7-4770k 2 3.5GHz 32 GB RAM NVIDIA GTX660 480 GB SSD 2000GB 7200 HDD x 2

Thanks Barry and PIX, I was able to download some VST plugnis and I think this will work out. The folks at Waves said that ADR may work with their plug in and will let me download at trial demo. Their products really sound great so Ill let you know after I give it a try. Thanks, Garrett W7 64bit SP1 Intel i7-4770k 2 3.5GHz 32 GB RAM NVIDIA GTX660 480 GB SSD 2000GB 7200 HDD x 2
