Issues with PowerDirector 11 after installing PowerDirector 12 Trial
[Post New]
Forgive me if this has been covered in another thread somewhere...

I installed a trail version of PowerDirector 12 yesterday and it seems to have made PowerDirector 11 unusable. PD11 opens OK and I can add to the library. But any clips I move to the timeline will not play and cannot be edited in any way. Well, that's not exactly true...I can edit the audio by fading the volume in and out...but cannot edit the video. Can't move the vertical pointer (not sure what it is called) away from the beginning of the time line which means I can't even do a SPLIT.

Based on what I've read, they both should be able to co-exist. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

(This is not a case of trying to open a PD12 project in PD11 - I understand that you cannot open a pds file with an earlier version of the program. )

Thanks!

Hi rpwoodjr,
Please can you provide your diagnostic data as in Part B of the guide: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/29701.page

Please have a read of Xerox's post, he appears to have localised the cause with issues he experienced, you may find his thread interesting. http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/30048.page

Thanks in advance, Dafydd, for your help. Hopefully, I followed the instructions correctly.

Just to be clear, it is PD11 that is now having issues. The PD12 trial has been working fine.

Your C drive is full.

Drive: C:
Free Space: 8.7 GB
Total Space: 596.2 GB
File System: NTFS
Model: WDC WD6400BEVT-22A0RT0 ATA Device

You need to free up some space. Powerdirector needs the breathing room to do its work. If you are doing SD only you can get by with as little as 10 to 20 GB free. If HD you need about 60 to 100 GB free.

That statement has been disputed many times, there is some question if Powerdirector really needs that much free space on the C drive. I have found my system works much better if that free space is available. It works poorly if not.

Thanks, Carl. I still have the same issue after doing some clean-up where I now have 25 GB of free disk space. After freeing up the space, I rebooted just to make sure I was starting with a clean slate and, as I noted, same issue exists.
