Rather than ignore, how can you adjust project frame rate from 29.97 to 30 fps to address this warning?

You really do not want to change to frame rate of the video from your camera.
If you want a maybe address why the warning message is coming up.
Go to Preferences > General and set the TV mode to 30 and the Drop frame to Yes.

The difference between 29.97 fps and 30 fps is Drop Frame or No Drop Frame.

If you really want to get into the why:

Interesting discussion. Cable companies here still broadcast 1080i @29.97 or 720p @59.97fps. I think only one local station broadcasts at 1080i @23.976fps.

The only time I've ever seen 30fps is odd-ball or really cheap camcorders. Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

Hmmm. Warning makes it seem like a big deal. It came up when I decided to try editing some videos from a recording made on a canon Powershot Digital camera. Will changing the drop frame setting make any visible difference?

Very unlikely.
What changes is the appearance of the Timeline marks and the Time code in the preview player.

Your Digital camera may have been 24fps. (23.976 fps). Thus the warning.

Double checked - imported file was 30fps AVI file as per property details.
Now I am back to usual question. How do I compress file without visible loss of detail? I have tried AVCHD, MP4, and WM 1.6 and 2.0 with only fair results.
Original file is 2.0gb for 20' @480x640, 20913 video kbps/sec. Audio (which will be silenced) is 705.
Suggestions?

In my opinion AVI file rendering should be good PC specs :

Gskill 32 GB RAM 1800 Mhz
6 TB HDD, SSD bootable
nVidia ASUS GTX 660 Ti

I tried AVI and the files got bigger! Then I tried MP-2 which wasn't bad. Things seem to deteriorate when I try MP-4 which was supposed to be so good.

I guess I just have to learn to live with large files.
