Competitive Upgrade apply to Premiere CS6?

Quick update - The official answer from CyberLink is "No". Oh well. I bought the Director Suite package anyway.

Dan.

---------------------

I've been using the professional versions of Premiere (not elements) for several years up through CS6. The problem is that the user interface is overly complex, some tasks are a bit tedious, and I don't use most of it's features. Add to that the new pricing model and I'm looking for an easier to use, less expensive alternative - perhaps PowerDirector 11 Ultimate Suite.

I've logged a request for with CyberLink for an official answer, but does anyone know if the competitive upgrade rebate also apply to Premiere CS6?

Thanks,

Dan.

I am pretty sure Cyberlink will not give a upgrade rebate on a competitor's product.

Dan, that product is not mentioned so you would have to contact Cyberlink directly.

Carl,
there was a "Switch" program, with CL, not too long ago.

It was easy to miss, I caught it because I have a Cyberlink feed on my YAHOOO Homepage. I never browsed the subject, though. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I agree that the program is easy to miss. I found it by accident.

While Premier Elements is an obvious target for prospective PD11 customers, I think that CL is missing an obvious target if they ignore Premier Elements' big brother - Premiere CS6...

Right now, Adobe has stirred up a hornets nest with their move to Creative Cloud (CC) subscription-only contract. While it may be an appropriate solution for Adobe's support issues, it is causing many of their customers to question the value of their products.

I have a full CC contract. Next month, the charge goes up to $50/month. Because of this change, I reviewed my usage of the Adobe's CC products. While it's nice to have loads of powerful tools available, I found that:

1) Lightroom has become so powerful that it's now my primary photo management/editing tool. I just upgraded to V5.0 and it is excellent. Rather than use Lightroom CC, I'll upgrade to a standalone version of Lightroom V5.0 for $80 and use that.

2) I used Premiere and PhotoShop rarely and then only used about 1/10 of 1% of their features and horsepower. Nice tools, but I have neither the time nor need for what they offer. And, unless you use them constantly, you forget the subtleties of their UI. They are like military-grade weapons - amazing tools in the hands of an expert, but it takes lots of work to be an expert.

3) For their other artistic and software development tools, other than playing with them for a few minutes, I haven't used them at all in the last year. I own other tools that work well for me.

I think that there are other Adobe customers who are looking for a ProSumer video editing option. I'm sniffing at PD11 Ultimate Suite. Having an extra migration offer to sweeten the deal would certainly make it an easy decision. And it would attract other Premiere CS6 customers.

Regards,

Dan.

Carl,
I wouldn't exactly call that a correction, the program was not promoted to the extent it could/should have been. As for you...the Crab is always keen to see what Carl posts. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I switched from an other editing program, whose versions have been on my computer over 12 years. My videos are fairly basic, I am not going overboard with titles, transitions etc.

The main goal is to preserve the original camera PQ at any cost and PD11 has been doing an excellent job here, in most cases considerably better than 8 other editing programs that I tested. My shooting and final BR disks are 1920x1080 60P.My version of Ultra was bought at a good discount from BH photo, came on a DVD including a 250 page manual. The download version was more expensive and no printed manual.

The proxy editing is a great feature, so is SVRT although I do not use it anymore, there are occasional glitches during some transitions. So I re-encode, PD11 does such a great job here that it is difficult to tell the original from the disk.

Good morning.

I got a chance to test PD11 with live footage last night. While PD11 has pretty much all the features I want, my initial post processing test did not turn out well. It was very slow, video quality was only fair, and it crashed multiple times in about 15 minutes.

To ensure that the video clips weren't screwed up, I did the same edit in Premiere Pro CS6. While Premiere was more cumbersome, it was fast, smooth, and completely stable. Editing in full resolution produced excellent quality and with no crashes.

To be fair, my video clips were AVCHD 1080/60p at 28Mbps. This codec combined with that bit rate will put a strain on software and systems. Premiere worked smoothly. PD11 crashed.

I'd like to use PD11 and get rid of Adobe products, but PD11 software crashes = NO. Any ideas on what the issue might be and how to fix it?

Thanks,

Dan.

p.s. Since my system is only about 6 months old, with a fairly high end CPU, 32GB of memory, SSD system disk, RAID5 data disks, RAID0 caching disks, multi GPU graphics card and running Win7/64, I don't believe that this is a system problem. Director Suite with PD11

Hi,
I would post a dxdiag text file here for members to see exactly your system specs. If you have a Small SSd drive that may be the drawback as Pd 11 uses C: drive for temp files when doing rendering process' and needs 100 GB free space on main drive.

Very strange Dan, since you are shooting in the same format as I do and my edited footage is just outstanding. I assume you are not changing the format?
And as far as strain, I have no problem editing 4K footage either.

I use C for system files only, everything goes on separate HDs, however that should not make a difference. And I have crashes extremely rarely.

Update GPU drivers??

Dan,
if you want to check on your computer, or ask particular questions, it may be best to start a new thread. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Gentlement,

Thanks for the feedback and for the suggestion to keep the thread on track. To that end, I moved the PD11 issues to this thread: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/28871.page
