Hi im a noob. Still i managed to do some editing. I am facing a problem in powerdirector 11. That is i open it in 1012*768(as program requirement) then select 16:9 ratio of display and start editing. The thing is when i edit the preview screen shows no black bar on left and right side of the screen but black bars just on up and down of the screen. But after the production of the video(WMV format) when i start it...i see black bars on left and right side of the video and and when i switch to 1280*720 resolution then the video has more big black bar on left and right and bar on top and bottom are gone. The video looks bad. What can i do? I want the produced video need to be looked like movies(wide screen look), bar just on top and bottom. Pls help.

(I also used with video clips provided by Powerdirector 11...the result is same)

Hi Fastener -

Do I understand you correctly that your input video clip is 1012x768? That isn't 16:9 or 4:3.

4:3 is 1012x759 - 16:9 is 1012x569

I'm confused by "the preview screen shows no black bar on left and right side of the screen but black bars just on up and down of the screen"

It should look like this in a 16:9 project (if I've read your post properly)

To eliminate the bars, you need to right click on the clip > Attributes > Set Aspect Ratio to make it 16:9. Then produce to 1280x720.

Cheers - Tony

Thanks for replying...What i do is, My videos are 1920*1080 and i turn the screen resolution 1024*768 as power director opens only at this resolution. Now edit and produce with WMV 9 1280*1080. Now i switch my screen resolution to 1280*720. I see black bars on left and right side. How to get rid of these Black bars.

1. Editing done and resolution of screen in 1024*768. see the preview it has no black bars.

2. Producing..see there is no black bars

3. Production is done. Video is ready I switch o 1280*720 resolution and start the video. I see there are black bars of both side of the video. I dont want these bars. pls if u know how to sove then tell me...

Ah - I misunderstood. That's a completely different issue, & we really should investigate why PD11 will only open with your screen resolution set to 1024*768.

Here - http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultra/specs_en_AU.html - it says "Screen Resolution 1024 x 768, 16-bit color or above" That's just a minimum requirement.

Have you tried to open PD11 using Window' recommended screen resolution? It's possibly all the switching showing up the issue.

I start with 1024*768 but while the program in on on i can change it to 1280*720 with no problem though PD11 gives a message whether i should continue with new screen resolution.

What is your system's recommended screen resolution?
Will PD11 start/open with your screen set to that?

Mine is set to 1920x1080 all the time. PD runs fine & I don't get issues like you're having.

You should have no need to change your screen resolution. As Tony says, the 1024x768 is only the minimum required. The screen resolution should not affect the way PD operates or produces to any particular profile.

However, your screen resolution may/will affect the way your choice of player (in your example VLC) behaves and displays its output.

If you were to use another player, such as MPCHC, you would have a number of options easily available under View>Video Frame which include Touch window from inside/outside, overiding aspect ratio etc etc. Not to mention no frame or borders if you like your videos that way.

From your example, the black bars are a consequence of VLC displaying your output in a particular way, which you can alter (to some extent), either by resizing the display window or changing the options within VLC itself.

Cheers
Adrian

See if you can set your screen resolution to 1280x768. Older Powerdirectors do not like the 720 vertical screen resolution.

The few extra pixels vertically do not cause much distortion, Powerdirector is OK with 1280x768 not OK with 1280x720. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

In this 3 year old post I would think buying a new widescreen monitor that is of greater resolution than the minimum would be the way to go. Some users may get confused without it.
