I am new to this. I have just edited a lot of video footage. I now have a file (5800) which is obviously larger than the disc I have. What do I have to do to put this large movie onto two 4700 discs Michael

Shakey55,
welcome to the forum.
As of now, what is the file-format of your 5800Mb media extravaganza?
How LONG is the video?
I ask these because a DVD will hold about 60 minutes of high-quality SD video.
If your movie is less than an hour it should fit.
If your movie is edited and created in a file-type that is larger (less compressed) than the standard DVD-MPEG2, then in the act of making the disc, the video will be compressed to DVD-MPEG2 standards and MIGHT fit.
There is also SMARTFIT, which will reduce the quality of your video until it fits a DVD. You can also buy 2-layer DVDs which will hold twice as much.

If it will not fit on a single layer DVD, why not burn a Double layer DVD?

You can find the 8.5 GB DVD in Disk preferences of the Create Disk Module.

You can put about one hour on a single layer DVD and about two hours on a Double layer DVD.
