Hi,

I found a bug with powerdvd 13 (may have existed in previous versions).
When I pause a movie, it mutes all my sound (including sound from other applications).
Could you look into this, it's quite irritating.

I'm using powerdvd 13 on windows 8.

thanks

Hi,
I moved your post to the correct PowerDVD 13 Forum.

For your issue - can you please post exact reproduce steps and kind of Media you are using?
I tried on different Windows 8 machines and the issue cannot be reproduced here

Hi,

I quickly did some tests, and the problem seems to be limited to blurays. Video files and regular dvd's are fine.

As for reproduction: Pause during the playback of a bluray movie

Hi,
I still cannot repro your issue.
Can you provide more information:

- using classic or CinemeMode or MCE plug-in
- how do you mute (using special key on keyboard or the UI Element of PowerDVD)?

As more details you can post as better.

thx
Michael

I autolaunch powerdvd when I insert a bluray disk (or regular dvd).
For pausing, I tried both clicking the pause button, as well as using the spacebar

I'm currently testing a number of scenario's, I'll update when I'm done

EDIT: tried both regular as well as cinema mode, no difference.
pausing PowerDvd mutes all system sound, while say pausing Windows media player works fine.

The problem seems to be related to be windows 8 specific:
I upgraded from 12 to 13, so I could still play it with powerdvd 12.
When I was still running windows 7, I didn't have this problem with PowerDvd 12,
I do now, however.

If you could tell me exactly what information you need (which steps I need to take) for testing,
that might help with identifying the problem.

The problem isn't exclusive to version 13. I have the same issue playing a bluray disk on version 12, windows 8 64-bit.

Hi,
thanks - please help to check if the issue persists on your side when:

1. make HDMI default audio device
2. ensure PDVD uses HDMI audio (in PDVD settings)

Using the HDMI, there seems to be no problem.
The problem seems to be related to the speakers

Hi,
so the issue does not happen when use HDMI audio out but happens when use Speaker or Headphone output only?

Please double confirm the audio setup as it seemt to be the key to understand the issue and setup an environment to reproduce it

Yup, when I play the audio from my TV (i.e. HDMI), everything works as it should.
When I use my laptop speakers/Headset (Realtek HD audio),
pausing the movie will disable all sound on my system.

Hi,
I tried 4 systems here and still cannot reproduce the issue

When press pause (or press space) while BD playback, the system audio is not affected at all and stays functional.

Did you play other sounds at the time (music, youtube movies, whatever,...)?
Because my sytem sounds also seem unaffected, but I'm not getting any sound.

Also, I'm not sure if this may have anything to do with it, but I'm working on a laptop.

Hi,

Yes, and other sounds are note affected at all here.
Not sure if you maybe installed some Software that interacts / cause this. But on my side PowerDVD is fine and shows no such problem.

I have the same problem are there any solutions for this. The only things I have installed which could interfere with it might be anydvd and an older version of powerdvd ready installed. Also the mute button and increment and decrease volume in powerdvd doesn't seem to work at all - I can only mute it from the taskbar.

I have uninstalled anydvd (in my opinion anydvd helps increase the number of blu-ray's that can play on powerdvd) to see if that effects it but the bug still continues onwards. I noticed other system sound works while powerdvd is playing. So for example if I go to youtube and watch a video the sound of it is outputted simultaneously with powerdvd bluray movie playing but when I pause the movie in play time it will not output sound from the youtube video or any other system sound. If I check the taskbar sound icon it seems to be going green on google chrome when a youtube video is playing with no mute icons present on the mixer but no audio is being outputted. It will only allow the sound to work if the video is stopped which is troublesome to go through the entire video, trailers, menus, adverts to the point I viewed up to.

I tried playing an mp3 using vlc player while powerdvd is paused it won't output the sound yet it recognises it in the sound taskbar mixer in the notification area.

Ok I got it to work now. What I did to make the system audio work while the video was paused is by going into the settings for my powerdvd ultra 13. Then to Player Settings -> Video, Audio, Subtitles-> and click on More audio Settings

I changed the output mode from stereo (which had the problem) to Dolby Headphone and there was no problem with the pausing after that however the sound was more of a echo type. If I change it back to stereo the problem returns. If I use true theatre I don't get the same problem either.
