Why is my mpeg file not in "My Works"

In my previous work with PD5 in Windows XP, my mpeg 2 files could be found in "My Works". I now have PD6, and am pleased with it, and my OS is Vista. When I produced my movie , where it is called for,I entered a file name in "My Works", but when I open "My Works", it is not there. Instead, it appears as a movie clip within the pds file of the original production. How do I take that mpeg clip so I can access it, without having to open PD?
P.S. Sorry Dafydd about my mis-spelling your name last time!

Hello Douglas,
So you have moved up to PD6. Well done!
First question is, as always, do you have the latest patch installed?"

I'm just wondering if you have more than one "My Works" directory since PD5 would have created one. Worth checking by seacrhing for the produced files name.
Secondly, as your produced file appears as a clip in the library of PD6 I would think that it has been saved somewhere on your system. Check the location of the clip (I think right clicking on it does that) and see if you can then find it with Explorer (or whatever Vista calls it).

All the best,

Kintara

btw - check your default settings for you location to save files. Cannot remember off hand where it is, no doubt the mighty on this forum will let you know.

Open PD
top left of screen

edit>preferences>file

the file interface should be the first that shows, so no need to actually click on "file" Join/SignUp to SeeMyWorldOnVideo. We're PowerDirector Video Editors. Are you a member? - JOIN TODAY!

Thanks, but this did not work. So, I entered the mpeg file name from My Recent Projects in PD6, and it appeared as a clip in the library. I then put the mpeg clip in the time line , and this allowed me to open Disc burning, and I made my DVD. Now, this disc will not play in Windows Media Player, and when I play the mpeg clip in Media Viewer, it seems to be jerky, with the Magic Motion pans etc not running as smoothly as they seemed to run during editing. But, somehow, the mpeg file now is listed in My Works, though without mpg after the file name. And I am dizzy! Doug

If you mouse-over the mpeg in the library, it should indicate where it is.
Also, I don't think WMPlayer will play a dvd file/folder.
If you look at the properties of the mpeg, or mouse-over it, it will show the file type. Showing the ext of every file in your computer would be just clutter. Join/SignUp to SeeMyWorldOnVideo. We're PowerDirector Video Editors. Are you a member? - JOIN TODAY!

Hi Barry,

I show the extension of every file on my computer. I also show hidden folders.

The reason is simple - I like to identify the file type quickly at a glance. The directories are useful for me to access information etc etc.

I should add I "list" directory content.

I have a variety of file types and need to be able to identify which. I also output a finished video with the same name but different extension. *.mpg and *.flv

This is my preference and as Barry has PM'd me, my choice, his works for him...mine for me.
