Hi, I have Power Director 4 and I want to use the music themes set in the program, in my YouTube videos. Do I need special permission from CyberLink to use them or can I use them since they are set in the program and I already have it? If I need written permission, how do I get it? Please help,as I have been asking this question so many times in so many forums and no one knew I can not create my own music,so I just want t use their terms. Please help

Hi Merita3562,
You'd be wasting your time. The core foundation files you'll download when activating PDR11/SmartSound are the same (and more) as you had packaged within PDR4 I believe. The PDR5/MusicFile_Full.exe contains them. I haven't hunted down PDR4.

Hi Merita -

As Barry said, the SmartSound music tracks supplied with PowerDirector can be used in your YouTube videos without getting any further permissions. It's covered in the SmartSound license. The only time you'd need extra permission if if you're going to produce 10 000+ discs!

PD 4-8 were supplied with the same core music library - Full Spectrum (same as MusicFile_Full). You should have about 26 tracks at your disposal.

... Bach Guitar - Blues To Go - Boulevard Funk - Cold Metal - Hot and Spicy - Innocence - Island Party - It's Cool - Kickin' Back Motor City Jam - Movie Logos - Mozart Night - New Vistas - No Borders - Olympic - Orleans Romp - Piano Sonata - Power Drive - Queen of Sheba - Rodeo Roundup - Subterfuge - Synergy - Take Me There - Tribal Theory - Underwater

PD 9-11 were shipped with Core Foundations

If you 'monetize' the video YouTube is likely to reject it. I had an introduction to a video which used music from PD. Under the terms at YouTube I am required to declare the source of all media that I do not create. When I listed Smart Sound they rejected it. You can upload the video. They just will not let you make money from it. I do not believe you ever said you are making money, so maybe you do not care about that. Just one more perspective on the subject. __________________________________

Interesting perspective James -

For other cases where YouTube "flags" your video because it "matches third party content" (happens to me regularly), here's the procedure

James - I'd like to get monetized!

Thanks, Tony. I bookmarked that link. When I looked before I found a page with wording that was pretty muddy and did not support my dispute, so I just removed the music. Your link above makes it very clear.

Hi,
The information about SmartSound copyright is very useful. The link to a SmartSound html page that is supposed to be given to YouTube or in a dispute does not work (for me) and returns a "404 Page not found"

RE: Step 1 - Dispute the claim with YouTube

First, if the claim only refers to copyright infringement, you can dispute the claim directly. Reply through the proper channels that YouTube provides, informing them that you have used Royalty-Free music from SmartSound in your videos, and include a link to our music license in your response:

http://www.smartsound.com/products/licenseinfo.html

We are working on the monetization issue and hope to update this soon for guidance regarding that. Until then, this will help you with copyright claims issues.

Exactly right, Dafydd. That's not very clever, is it?

Perhaps SS should replace that dead link with http://www.smartsound.com/support/link.php?action=detail&id=28

Just to confirm, or add to the mix.
All the SS links posted above (by Tony and Xerox), work fine here.
No 404 error incurred with any of these posted links.

Hi all, thank you all for answering so quickly,I had used many other forums with no success, so a big Thank you! Indeed Jaime-esque I was thinking of monetization and from what I see it would be a problem for sure. I see the procedure by Smart Sound but still I would hate to risk losing my account on YouTube over the music. Is there any other way that I can use/buy music online, which I can put on YouTube and get monetized without any claim procedures? I am not such a good musician to create my own
