Any suggestions on how I could further stabilize shaky footage? Normally when I stay close to shore I'm pretty good at stabilizing the camera by hand holding and turning my upper body into a tripod, but the waves are worse farther from shore and it's harder to keep the boat where it needs to be to get steady footage.
Dustie,
I have one of these from a UK manufacturer :-

but there are many types/models to choose from. They all work on the same principle and mine is remarkably effective in most circumstances. They are very finely balanced, so much so that gusty winds will rotate the camera easily, but careful operation gives good results. Might be worth looking at.
One slight disadvantage I have experienced is that, whilst the vertical movement of walking is well cancelled out, it is more difficult to counteract the natural "roll" of the side-side motion inherent in natural walking.
There is a solution, but also a slight difficulty.
If one walks like a catwalk model - with one foot directly in front of the other, the roll is minimised. Of course, it does mean, that if you are a bloke, then there is a danger that one looks a little "mincing" which might give an incorrect impression?? Or not.
Cheers
Adrian
