Leveling a video in small increments? SOLVED!
[Post New]
Does anyone happen to know how to turn a tilted video by small increments in PD? I searched, but none of the answers in the first couple pages are even remotely related so I gave up and thought I'd ask... I have a lake scene and it looks as if the water is going to pour out of the picture if I can't get the lake leveled off. ; Thanks in Advance!

Power Crop!
You can key-frame the tilt of the video. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

I tried crop but it won't let me do it in small increments. It wants to turn it way to much. I need it turned just a small bit. I need it not to snap Is what I'm wanting to say I guess. Dustie

If the video is stable is easy to adjust the rotation and if necessary make the cut.
If the video vai rotating with time, have to adjust the start and end position of the rotation, you may need to split the video for more precise adjustments

Playsound is on his game.
However...both CROP and ROTATION have the same increments of 1 degree, but I have always found CROP to be easier to key-frame, good if you have the view out of level to different degrees in various parts of the video. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Barry, problem is, I'm not yet familiar with what keyframe even is. I'm learning as I go and have not needed and haven't run into keyframing yet.

Here's the video I needed to level and one adjustment leveled the whole thing, since it was a pretty short clip and at about the same tilt all the way though.

No problem, no need for the video, you'll get to key-framing soon enough, and it can be a blast, or sometimes drive you nuts, but the power of the key-frame cannot be over-stated. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I saw the video, http://youtu.be/MX6L7j5taEY
is normal with only little shaking

Lovely video, very little tilt, can almost leave as is, but the bit of camera movement is, in my opinion, a bit more noticeable. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

This was the video after the tilt was corrected using the Video Rotation tool thanks the helpful suggestion. ;

Barry, the shaking of the camera is because I was in a boat and this is after the footage was stabilized in Power Director. This little 45 seconds is the best of the footage. Most was too shaky to use. When shooting from my little 10 ft. boat, I'm often at the mercy of the waves I'm afraid, but this shot was just too peaceful not to use.

Any suggestions on how I could further stabilize shaky footage? Normally when I stay close to shore I'm pretty good at stabilizing the camera by hand holding and turning my upper body into a tripod, but the waves are worse farther from shore and it's harder to keep the boat where it needs to be to get steady footage.

I can't tell you how much video I shot from a boat, but it's been a lot, and yes, much of it winds up overboard! HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

hahahaha...overboard, that's funny, and true. LOL! But without the boat I'd have never been able to make my movie, the Nature of Beautiful Bella Vista, Lakes Edition.

It took my boat, my video camera, my computer, Power Director (and that includes the Cyberlink Forum and all you guys) and Magix Music Maker...each was a link in the chain I could not do without in the making of this movie. Oh, yes...and mother nature with her awesome cast of characters!

Here's a preview...

Dustie,

I have one of these from a UK manufacturer :-
http://www.b-hague.co.uk/hague_mini_motion_cam_steadicam_type_camcorder_stabilizer.htm

but there are many types/models to choose from. They all work on the same principle and mine is remarkably effective in most circumstances. They are very finely balanced, so much so that gusty winds will rotate the camera easily, but careful operation gives good results. Might be worth looking at.

One slight disadvantage I have experienced is that, whilst the vertical movement of walking is well cancelled out, it is more difficult to counteract the natural "roll" of the side-side motion inherent in natural walking.

There is a solution, but also a slight difficulty.

If one walks like a catwalk model - with one foot directly in front of the other, the roll is minimised. Of course, it does mean, that if you are a bloke, then there is a danger that one looks a little "mincing" which might give an incorrect impression?? Or not.

Cheers
Adrian

Thanks Adrian. That looks like it might work well while walking, but in a boat I don't think that would correct my main problem, that is the turning of the boat by the current and/or waves. But I do see how it could help standing and taping handheld footage. Dustie
