Want to start 3D video editing and rendering, ans also doing other 3D design work.

For budget reasons I can't buy a new system, my current setup is Lenovo X220 Win7Pro i5 2520M 2.5 ghz Intel HD 3000 8gb ram 320 gb 7200rpm HDD.

I know I can't update the GPU, but its possible to use a eGPU solution such this http://www.villageinstruments.com/tiki-index.php?page=ViDock or the equivalent DIY.

For about the same cost I can have

- GPU GeForce GTX 660/Radeon 7870 or in alternative
- SSD Crucial M4 512 GB

What's the best choice?
Can be better invest less in GPU (maybe GTX 650 Ti or Radeon 7850) and have a hybrid drive?
There are any specific reason to prefer Nividia/ATI? Especially for 3D TV compatibility?
