When I put a DVD into the DVD drive it won't play. I need to open the disk and enter the video follder and double click a VOB file for it to run. If I click on the menu VOB it will run but the menu buttons are inactive. Is this how it works or what am I doning wrong?

Do you have multiple drives and have you selected the drive that the DVD is in?

Forgot to add - as the default drive? Use the gear icon to select the drive.

OK I was opening the disk with PowerDVD 12 menus and trying to start by selecting the video folder. It just opens it. If I right click the drive and click play the DVD goes.

However, I have a bunch of DVD copied to the hard drive these won't play with menus and all. I can double click a VOB file but it just plays that file and menu VOB's have dead buttons. I PowerDVD 11 if I openned it and click get file from computer and then highlighted the video folder the DVD would run normally just as though it was in the DVD drive.

Will PowerDVD 12 do this? If not this is not good.

Ah, that puts a whole new spin on it. I guess I didn't read that in your first post.

Have you tried using the Cinema Mode? I don't have any ripped movies on my computer so I can't try it. .

Your description doesn't sound like it is the easiest way to open a movie. The following is what I typically do. But if someone points out an easier way, I am always interested in doing things differently to make it easier.

This is what I do. If I insert a DVD or Blu-ray disc into a drive on my PC, I have my Windows Auto Play settings for the drive to automatically play the disc using PowerDVD 12(see Windows Auto Play Settings screenshot). This will then make the disc play "automatically with PowerDVD12, if you select "play with PowerDVD 12" from the drop down menu on the settings page.

To play a DVD or Blu-Ray Movie that is Ripped to a folder on your PC. I select the "Select Movie Source" button located in the lower left hand corner of the Open application PowerDVD 12. Select "Open Disc Folder From Hard Drive". (see screenshot).

Then Navigate to the folder of the Movie you want to watch and select it. Then click "OK". (see screenshot).

I hope this helps. If not I probably didn't fully understand what the problem you are having. Just repost and see if you can help me understand better.

Best,

Kevin

Thanks that little button down in the left corner did it. Could it be possible to hide it better. In Power DVD 11 its up on top and labeled with test. I found it within seconds of first launching the program. When I googled this problem, I actually found a forum that said Power DVD 12 will not play DVD's straight from the hard drive. It will only play individual VOB files not a contiguos movie with menus. Who ever posted this obviuosly couldn't find this little button either. Needless to say I was upset I spent the money. I probably could have found it if I had read the users manual but who does this.

Thanks I'm up and running.

I agree Keith...that button isn't in an obvious place. Interesting that you found a forum that says you can't play from a folder using PowerDVD 12. I thought everything you read on the internet was "true"!! Guess not!!

I am glad that you got everything up and running again. The forum is great for getting questions answered pretty quickly. Glad that you found the forum here to get your question answered.

Take care!

Kevin

I am having a similar issue and I can't figure out how to resolve it. When I pop in a DVD, CL opens and I am getting a folder listing of Audio_TS and Video_TS and I am having to play one video file at a time inside Video_TS. I had this issue in an older machine years ago but can't remember how I resolved it (?)
