Switching to 24hz automatically? [SOLVED!]
[Post New]
I've been reading on these forums that for some users, PowerDVD 12 automatically switches to 24hz when reading a Blu-Ray disk. I can't seem to find that setting in my software, even though I'm 100% sure my TV (Toshiba 32RL938) supports 24hz since I can manually set it using my graphic card's (AMD HD6870) control panel.

Is there a trick I don't know about?

Thanks :)

24 Hz ? I'm not sure what that is? Do you mean 24 fps? .

Yeah, in the case of a display devices, herz is the same than frames per second, sort of.

If you go in the advanced display settings in your Windows, you will see that term My collection: http://www.blu-ray.com/community/collection.php?u=194008&action=showcategory&category=1&categoryid=7

I have never heard that screen refresh rate is equal to frames per second -- sort of.

Perhaps this is what you are looking for? (From the help files -search for fps):

· TrueTheater Motion: select this option to enable frame rate upsampling, from 24 fps up to 60 fps, to make panning scenes, particularly in action movies, play more smoothly. TrueTheater Motion can improve the frame rate of video content to 60 or 72 fps, depending on the output frame rate of your display.

Sort of backwards from what you are looking for. BTW, what are you looking for?

A low frame rate (for some people) will make the video look jerky because their eyes can see the frames change. The look is like an movie film Most movie theater movies are 24 fps to give an aesthetic effect to the movie. Higher frame rates like on a computer will make the video look smoother. Read more about 24pfs here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24p

If that doesn't answer your question, go to the help menu and search for FPS. There is a lot on FPS and TruTheater.

Nope, all I want is PowerDVD to switch my display to 1080p @24hz when a 24fps movie is playing. My collection: http://www.blu-ray.com/community/collection.php?u=194008&action=showcategory&category=1&categoryid=7

Hi Korrigan,
some infos:

the auto frame rate adjustment works for BDs (not for file playback) - on my systems the refresh rate is adjsuted correctly when insert BD.

Maybe you have rejected this in the past and selected to not show this message again? go to Settings > General and reset the "never ask again" settings (bottom button)

You also need to ensure to use HDMI cable

Aaaahh that's it!

Yes, I rejected it in the past because my old display wasn't supporting 24hz anyway.

And yes, I'm using a HDMI cable of course.

I just tested and it works perfectly now after I answered "yes" to the question, thank you very much Michael, very helpful as usual, you rock!

If you would permit me an humble suggestion, maybe your developers could put this as a standard preference parameter (with a checkbox) to avoid such confusion. I think that for the end user it would be much clearer.
