How to create simple menus?
[Post New]
I have excellent experience of this forum. So it was also to begin with the CyberLink customer service. But how to make simple menus was the question to which the customer support is no longer responding. So the only way now is to ask here.

I'm used to other programs of simple menus. But with CyberLink I have not managed to do such. I hope that you will help me.

Maybe two photos here will tel you of what I aim at. Simple menus, which opens the movie and does not necessarily have any buttons. It has just a neutral background or background of still image. The small screen is a still image from the video. The video will start in a DVD player when click Play. Or in the computer DVD station when click Enter. After the video is palayed to end, it does not necessarily begin again. - And of course, there is also the name of the movie.

But how to do with CyberLink such simple menus? Can you guide me on the right track.

Hi,
Well here is my suggestion..you go to 'Create Disc' module and either modify a stock template (some cannot be modified) and modify it to your needs or you can do one from scratch by selecting the colored swatch in the left of the screen ( i prefer this way). You will be presented with a black background and some text 'My Video' and three 'Item 1, Item 2 Item 3" texts. In the top of the preview screen there are icons to import you own background etc. Then at the bottom of the Preview screen the is a drop down for the 'Titles/Chapter" menu you can add your own Objects there also.
This will be saved in custom menu folder (this is a template and is save as template so after you save it you have to go to custom menus select it and Apply to all pages. Now you can rename the generic "My Video and Item 1...."to names of your choice.

Hi Jim

Many thanks of your reply. So I had also an idea that is maybe necessary first create a template.

OK. I do as you told, hope so Get to point "go to custom menus select it and Apply to all pages". Here is one photo of that situation. But when kicking Apply to all pages system waits some time and then the program stops to responses. Can't get further. Tested also with other project and with earlier self made templates and always the same result. So it is something wrong with settings. I do not have the faintest idea what it is.

The photo shows situation when I tested blue simple background Test menu 1.

Hi Seppo,
Have you updated all drivers on your computer from the manufacturers website?, and update Pd to latest patch?
There may also be a corrupt installation of the files.
run a dxdiag file and attach it here and we can see tour computer specs.

Hi Jim!

I am quite sure the fault is not this computer or CyberLink 11 software. All important drivers is up to date. I have already made couple of long videos with this software (with NO MENU!) - and several with other - and no problems. If you will look after my website you notice that I am some kind computer enthusiast.

Propable the reason is I have made something wrong in the way to situation shown in picture. Can check it if you will clarify little bit exactly how to do.

What is the first method you mentioned in your post? Will also try that, if possible.

Sorry Jim, CyberLink 11 is new for me and it is very multifaceted (really menu creating). Also my native language is not American English, what can also bring difficulties in some circumstances. But am also hard working listener. Neptun

This is a very old Menu design tips. It was about Powerdirector 7 and some things have changed. The basics of creating your own menu it there. Some details are different because of the newer versions of Powerdirector.

Maybe this guide will take you in the correct direction.

There are videos on creating menus in Powerdirector:
Go to Youtube.com and search for "powerdirector create menu" without quotes.

Speaking of "old advice", here's a step-by-step way of creating a simple menu - PD8 - http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/posts/list/2589.page#9225

Neptun - if PD stops working during your menu creation, something is malfunctioning with your PC or PD. I can't tell from your screenshot what's going wrong.

Best thanks of your reply. I will read all the instructions, some of them again and watch the videos.

Easiest way to loose this problem could be to get a simple menu template from CyberLink Menu Template Store. Study all of them but there was no one of simple menus. If there is simple blue etc. menu template without any music, buttons etc. so it is easy to load it and modify if necessary. All menus form CyberLink Menu Template Store function well with my computer and sofwares.

I takes little time to read, understand and test instructions. Proceed to tell you how I managed Neptun

Here are some simple menus on DirectorZone...

I made them in the same way that was suggested above, by modifying an already existing template (made by forum member JL_JL)

Thanks to you Tony! There is the solution, I am sure, will tray this day later on.

To all of you guys: To users who have before created menus with other edit softwares will find it with CyberLink extremely difficult. In other editors this activity in almost automatically. Only pick suitable ready made background, wrote the text and put one picture of the video (need not be still picture) and there it is! The terminology of menu parts is also unknown. For example what might be the thumbnail button of Menu? It is always necessarily?

Earlier I wrote "...system will not response". It is not exactly so. Right is: CyberLink is waiting but doing nothing or it stops little bit later, not the computer or Windows. It makes also a copy from that point. I think this is normal when have made some "illegal" activities.

Hi, I will be back here.

Hello all,

Sorry this delay. I have been busy and still is. Tested Links Tony send. The first link of menu templates is very good for my videos of nature. Second not suitable. And have also read again the last link with photos how to make menus. Advices there is still difficult to understand. What of all possibilities is necessary in single case? How to create photo or video from movie to thumbnail button etc...?

Next I must understand and test how to make my own thumbnail button (is that called so?) to Tonys blue tempalate. Videos name is maybe easier. How to get further from that situation.

This is hard...
