Poor Quality Video
[Post New]
I bought the full version Power Director 10.0 from Amazon a little over a year ago and everything worked fine but tried it today and the quality of the video was really poor. I used the WMV format. I tried MPEG-4 and 2 and 1 but all I get is that I need to Activate H.264 before I can use those features. I get an error message that the serial number might be wrong, or I don't have an internet connection, or I have reached my activation limit. Is there a fix for this?

The only possibility is to contact Cyberlink Support.

You will need to provide proof of purchase.

Ok......thanks. I have contacted them and will await their reply. I registered the product with them when I bought it so that is the only proof of purchase that I have.

The box, or the download should SCREAM the FACT that if you do not "activate" certain features within a time limit, your software will spit in your face. That being stated, CL should make good, I'm sure they will. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Maybe Cyberlink should have printed that on the Box in 72 point font, but the statement is on the box.

On my Powerdirector 9 Ultra box, the statement is in 6 point font.

A lot of people overlook that little statement. So don't beat yourself up over small print.

I contacted them and sent all the information they requested except the proof of purchase. Good luck with them getting any of that from me. I purchased it from Amazon and after a bit of research, it had to be in 2011 and they only have my purchases as far back as January of 2012. Everything worked ok for quite some time so I was unaware of anything that had to be updated in order for the program to keep working. That's a Dumb A** thing for them to put in the program anyway.

Well it has been two days since sending them the latest information they wanted so I must have a serious problem. I find it odd that during the creation of the video, the preview is perfect with regard to picture quality, it's only when you produce it as a .WMV that it turns out badly. I tried a little fix for this on my own and it seems to work rather well. What I did was to create the movie and then preview it using the full screen option and then capture it with my Microsoft Expression Screen Capture program and encode it with the Expression Encoder 4.

I have a feeling since I do not have proof of purchase, Cyberlink is not going to do anything for me. I downloaded the Trial Version of Power Director 11 but the one feature I use the most has been removed. It is the "cell" display in the Slide Show Creator. I wonder why they got rid of that?

The Cell Template is in the paid version, It is just that the Trial has limits.

The Trial is nowhere near the full program.

The Paid PD 11 Ultimate has 15 Slide Show Templates.
One is the Cell Template.

By The Way, one of the proof of purchase is a copy (xerox) of the Product CD showing the CD Key on the sleeve that the CD came in.
You can lay the Disk and the sleeve on the glass of a scanner and send the scan to Cyberlink.

Comparsion of Paid versions of Powerdirector 11 and the Trial version.

I added the key to the cd itself so that is not the way it originally looked when I got it. Other than spilling coffee on the sleeve the CD came in, it is still readable so is that what they need?

Probably, except you should not post that on this open forum.
for safety, edit your post with the picture and delete the picture.
This is what the original CD and CD Key looked like. The CD Key is a Label put on the sleeve by Cyberlink when the disk is manufactured.

I removed the link to the image. Cyberlinks support page leaves a lot to be desired. It basically prohibits you from adding information about the problem by creating a pop up that says don't create another ticket, wait till we get back to you and your only option is to click on ok or cancel. So..........I guess all I can do is hold onto my image and wait and see what happens.

Yes, you will have to wait for Cyberlink to get back to you. Maybe it won't be too long.

They got back to me yesterday and the activation button has been fixed so I can now use the Mpeg4 and Mpeg2 buttons to create a video. The WMV option still gives me a very very poor quality picture although I do not see the need for WMV in that the Mpeg's play fine using the Windows Media Player. Does that activation button have to be used every time I make a Mpeg4 and are there just so many times that you can use it....does it expire? They also told me not to use the program on more than one computer which does not fit in with my plan of running in on my desktop at home and my laptop away from home.

Activation is a one time operation.
Once activated, you never have to do that again, unless you get a new computer.

There is a multi-computer license you can purchase.
http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/store/contact-cvlp.do

On WMV, there are some HD WMV profiles. If you scroll down in the WMV list. The HD profiles are at the bottom of the list.

The first few at the top of the list are really low resolution profiles. They are left over from when dialup internet was the only way you could connect.

Powerdirector 11 does not have those low resolution WMV profiles anymore.

OK, Thanks Carl. I just loaded a folder of old Navy Pics I had and gave it a try using the scroll down and it turned out fairly good. The pics were very old so many of them look fuzzy because they are. :

I ran it on you tube:

gskywalkers,

Those were pretty good pictures, they must have been made in the 1940's.

You did a good job.

I bet they were all paper prints. If so there is only so much resolution you can get from paper prints.
Film negatives have much more detail, even the Old Brownie 127 film.

But you need a good film scanner for film negatives.
