Scenes is not separate
[Post New]
My problem is; have scenes but but they are no separate, all material on timeline makes only one big scene. Therefore it is impossible to trim etc scenes. (Pointing Trim shows the hole video, not scenes)

This situation is after I have captured some old video from VHS tape. This problem was not when I make videos from new material of camcorder. Capturing old videos is OK and also splinting videos to scenes. But only one big 60 min scene is on timeline, although there is lot of scenes in scene making window with their flags! And scenes are also on scene window.

I suppose that is my fault. Maybe cant't do scenes from captured material correctly or missing some progress. Very thankful if you will help me with this problem. How to get all scenes separate for trim etc.? Neptun

The only way I know is to manually split the video on the timeline.

Use Split not Trim.

Hi Neptun,

So it sounds like you are using the "Detect Scenes" facility in Power Director 11? Is this correct? Right-clicking on your 60 minute captured video in the Media Room and then selecting "Detect Scenes"?

This generates all the scenes marked with "flags" like you described? see screenshot.

Did you click "OK" on this window?

Once you select OK it should then import all the individual scenes into the Media Room. see screenshot. Each of these scenes can then be placed on the timeline.

Is this not happening for you?

Hello Kevin. Thanks for reply, also to Carl312. Yes I was doing just so as your photos shows. Not forget to klick OK either. The result was just same you have in photos, all scenes is in Edit (library?) window. Only after that become the problem when trying to trim scenes by kliking them and Trim button in Timeline. There was only a 60 min. scene in Trim window. Earlier with new material from camcorder that situation was different.

I have also tested that case with an other editing software. I was using the same 60 min. .mpg file captured by CyberLink 11. That other software make easily all scenes and they was also separate; it is possible to trim scenes right form Timeline. So I am very interest in that, what is the reason why scenes are now different kind? And of course, what is the fastest method to trim scenes manually (there is plenty, that old home video is the whole over 3 h long!).

Hope you can understand my English Neptun

I use the method that Carl described using the split function. Place your 60 minute clip from the media room onto the timeline and then use the split function repeatedly where you want and then right-click and remove the sections that you dont want. You will have several options, One of which is to close the gap that would remain. I find this method much easier than the trim function.

Then add your transitions or effects as you desire.

Does that make any sense?

You can still use the Multi-trim window to adjust the in and out points of a scene. The trick is to adjust the controls so you can better see the section you want to work on.

Click on the large thumbnail representing the scene on the right side of the multi-trim window. That will set the cursor to the start of the scene.

You can then zoom in or out using the + or - magnifiers.

Adjust the yellow in and out markers. Then press okay. The scene on the timeline will be updated with the new in and out points.

Best thanks to all you guys! Now I have several possibilities to trim old videos and will test them all. Was sure to find methods for so fine software as PowerLink. Hope some day I can also help newbies to lose video problems here in your forum. Nice to be here.

Also my special regards to Kevin: You have fantastic clear water for underwater videos! Green with envy of that Neptun

Ha Ha!

Not the most inviting water to dive in is it?! I nice green tint to it! There is so much particulate in the water that at 60-80 feet there is no light getting through it in the Summer. It's nearly pitch Black!

This was an Ice Diving excursion on Lake Champlain in Vermont. Our group cut the hole directly above a shipwreck, the General Butler, that sank in a brutal storm in 1876. The water doesn't have much clarity, but in the Winter it clears up some and provides some decent visibility to shoot video of the wreck. The only available light is through the cut triangular hole and my video lights. Not much sunlight gets through because of the snow cover. But yes...GREEN! pretty yucky. Maybe I should use Power Director to correct for this eerie green tint!!

Glad you got some ideas to make your editing go smoother.

Looks to me like from your avatar picture that you find yourself on the water at times. Got to Love it!!

Happy Video Editing!

Kevin

Hi Kevin! You have right, I am also a water lowing guy. My nickname Neptun is also same kind. To inform you: Here in Finland is thousands of lakes and long seacoast too. But the visibility in water is only normally 1 meter, in extra good circumstances 2-3 meter. But when it is cold, dark and gray under water it is sunny and heavenly beautiful over it!

I have also an other problem with CyberLink 11. Am an trying to solve it with customers support there. It is question of very simple menus. Seems difficult to get solution for it, maybe I can not describe what I am looking for (have pictures too for example). But this process is going on and I wait for further advise. Keep your fingers crossed! Neptun

Hi Neptun,

You could always try to solve your menu problem here in the forum. Just start a new topic and try to describe what it is you are trying to do. There are many members that are very skilled with menus. Me, not being one of them!

Kevin
