Can someone please explain what this means when I go to save a project?

"Would you like to merge your project’s Media Library files with the current media files in this Library?"

That message comes up if you are Opening another project when you have media in the library.

There are times when you do want to merge the library with files that are in the new project file.
If you do not need the current library, just answer NO.

It is not when you Save, but when you Open a project.

OK - so I understand, if I don't want other things in the library combined with current project, say NO. right?

I can't thank you enough.
Right now I am using the OEM PD8 that came with video capture hardware. Basically, as i understand, it captures MP2s, which are reasonable uality, but very large files.
I've experimented with various file types to "Produce"a video using WMV and MP2 HQ settings. Neither seem particularly good. Is it worthwhile in terms of quality and file compression to upgrade to PD11? I'm not concerned about the cost as long as it gives me better results.

In order to go from PD 8 to PD 11 you have to see the steps in between. PD8 > PD 9 > PD 10 > PD 11.
PD 11 is a huge step, PD 11 does things that none of the previous versions have done.

I love to Use Powerdirector 11 Ultimate. It is a big improvement over the previous versions.

Ultimately, first goal is to get cleaner Analog to digital conversions. What's your recommendation regarding file/format types?

If you are converting VHS tape to Digital there is only one video format, MPEG-2 HQ. Or may be called DVD HQ. Depends on which PD version you are using.
Video Tape is always 720x480/576 NTSC/PAL. Bit rate is around 8 Mbps.

If you are converting DV video that is a whole range of difference. You want to convert as near the source video quality.
For DV, many of the MP4 profiles or H.264 profiles work well.

There is no one best for DV video.

Thanks again. That makes it easier. Do you think it matters whether I use S-video or Composite? Either is available, although I've never been able to tell difference.

No, it makes no difference.
The only difference is the video input selection on your capture device.

Years ago there was a claim that S-Video was cleaner because it separated the Chroma and Video signals, where Composite is combined.

Like you, I can not tell any difference. The video ends up in a multiplexed Video File anyway.
