Small Problem in PD11 with Audio

When I play the video on the timeline, the video plays fine, but sometimes, there are some audio clips that are in the timeline, but as the slider scrolls past them, the audio isn't heard. Most of the audio clips play just fine, it's just some of them here and there that won't play. When I render the video, it does the same thing in the completed video. Audio goes on for a while and then certain parts are just missing... But the audio file is in the program where each one should be... What's going on? This doesn't seem like a video card problem...

Just as a check, right click the audio clips and check they have not been muted or even the whole audio track muted.

Lastly check the audio clip in the media room before you load them onto the timeline to see if the audio works. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

The track / clip isn't muted and the audio clip itself is fine. If I rewind it a tad and hit the play button, the portion of audio which wasn't working will start to work again. Sometimes I'll have to do that a couple of times to get it working.

Hi Mesdon

What are the file types of the audio files?

If they're MP3 try converting them to WAV using a free convertor like Audacity (Google it it's free)

EDIT**** SEE COMMENT BELOW AS YOU HAVE MULTIPLE MP3 CLIPS

PD9/10/11 has issues with certain types of MP3's

You've got me stumped, but if it works sometimes and not others it sounds as though something on your computer is finding it hard to handle the audio files.

As another test, I would cold boot your computer ( that is turn it off at the on switch then back on again) then have nothing else open other than PowerDirector to see if that helps.

Lastly you might want to attach a sample of the problem audio file here to see if anyone else has the same problem. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Hi Mesden -

I don't know what's causing the audio issue there, but your screen capture is helpful.

I would uncheck everything in the timelines except the audio tracks and render it in WAV or WMA format... then remove the audio tracks in the timeline & replace them with your rendered file.

Robert mentioned a possible problem with how well your PC is reading the files, & that's the most likely cause (in my view).

Cheers - Tony

If I do that the entire voice track is missing. Can I just revert it back to PD9? PD11 is giving me nothing but problems and I wasn't having any problems with PD9. I can't simply load it in PD9 because it says it was made with PD11.

You don't mention if the audio is mp3 or not? If it is try Neil's suggestion. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Convert each of them to WAV? Wouldn't that mean having to replace each audio clip in the timeline?

Yes but at least it would work. It is all about standards and it seems not all mp3's are the same standard.

Hi Tony means to uncheck the tracks NOT delete them.

You need to replace the multiple MP3 files with ONE continuous WAV file Try this:

When you have unchecked the tracks and left the LAST TRACK CHECKED

Go to Produce>The Music Notes and select WaveForm Audio then Start.

This will Produce your Checked Track as a WAV file.

You then replace this WAV file in the Checked Track area - as it is the same length a Prompt box opens - use Overwrite.

Then Check all the boxes and Produce your project.

I'm not sure I understand. Unchecking them mutes them, doesn't it?

Unchecking makes them (a) invisible or (b) inaudible... in preview & produced file.

I often do exactly that when I get glitches with overlapping audio clips... & it solves it.

Could any of the settings be causing that kind of behavior? I muted the unused tracks, it's still skipping certain clips.

Mesden -

I doubt whether any PD settings are causing the problem.

The issue is more likely to be one of those Neil & Robert have said:
1. The audio format (you haven't stated that yet)
- hence the suggestion to convert
2. Something wrong with how your PC is previewing the audio
- hence the suggestion to render the whole audio separately.

My PC copes with a huge load sometimes, but when I have lots of audio clips overlapping I've had similar problems in preview. Producing the audio as a separate track then inserting it helps stabilise things & make it run smoothly.

Have you tried any of the suggestions yet?

Cheers - Tony

Your problem exists because of the MP3 files that since PD9/10/11 does not handle at all well. You need to replace these multiple MP3 files with ONE continuos WAV file

Please follow the steps given by Tony and myself (SEE INSTRUCTIONS IN PREVIOUS MESSAGES) to Produce this multiple MP3 track as one big WAV file and reimporting it into the Track replacing those multiple MP3 files.

Good luck

Yep, it was the MP3s. Most of them were working fine, but a lot of them weren't working at all. Had to spend a couple hours converting to WAV and re-adding them. I'm never going to implement MP3s into PD again....

Great news

The super quick way to convert all those mp3's was to uncheck the other tracks and Produce the mp3 track as a WAV file.

You're right about never using mp3's again - I haven't since PD10.

I either use Audacity or PD to convert mp3's to WAV's
