PowerDirector Suite & PD4
[Post New]
Does the PowerDirector Suite contain PhotoDirector 4 Ultra or is it the basic version of PhotoDirector?

I purchased Media Suite 10 and it came with a free copy of PhotoDirector 4. A few of the editing options aren't available in the version of PhotoDirector 4 that I received. Instead of upgrading to the full blown version of PhotoDirector 4 Ultra, I thought I'd just go for PowerDirector Suite, but want to be sure the version of PhotoDirector with it is the full blown version.

Thank you for the quick response.
Does your PhotoDirector have the People Beautifier option?
That is one of the options I don't have. Asus X79-Deluxe, Intel i7-4930K, EVGA GTX 980ti, G.Skill memory 16GB, Corsair HX1000 PSU, OCZ Vertex4 SSD, OCZ Vector180 480GB, (2)Western Digital Black 1TB(RAID0), Western Digital 2TB, LG Blue Ray Burner, Lite-on DVD Burner, Logitech G19 keyboard, Window

Hi Skibum -

All very confusing - the different versions. I'm unsure about the deal you got with the free PhotoDirector 4 attached, but there are 2 packages named PhotoDirector 4...

PhotoDirector Suite (which has ColorDirector attached) & PhotDirector Ultra (which doesn't). Both packages have the same PhotoDirector features, to my knowledge...

Here's a comparison chart http://www.cyberlink.com/products/photodirector/compare_en_AU.html

Just to be clear, could you open PhotoDirector 4 > click on the word PhotoDirector (top right) and note the version number. The first release was 4.0.3306. That was updated with a patch to 4.0.3419.

The People Beautifier module was introduced with PhD3. PhD4 expanded that module with the body shaping tools. You should find those tools under Edit.

Cheers - Tony

I have the PDR 11 Ultimate Suite installed last Monday. It does not include PhotoDirector. In the editing room there is a tab which says PhotoDirector just below the toolbar but clicking it only brings up an offer to buy it at the standard price. Unless I missed something?

Cheers

You needed to get Director Suite to have Photo Director included. It is a very confusing marketing approach they took.

I wanted to upgrade to PD11 and have both Photo Director and Color Director. The cost to do that was just $20 less than going the Director Suite route. So I have audio director now and will likely never use it.

Oh Oh!

Something's quite wrong here, but I don't know that we members (aside from the moderator) will be able to do any more than offer advice.

There are variations on variations with the current batch of Director software & it's hard to keep track.

Skibum - till you mentioned it, I'd never heard of PhotoDirector 4 Deluxe (and I can't find any reference to it on the CL site)

BobG - till you mentioned it, I'd never heard of PowerDirector 11 Ultimate Suite that doesn't include PhotoDirector 4

Questions:
1. Could you please post a screen shot to confirm your statement? (from the "About" window)
2. It's a full purchased version - yes?
3. Purchased from? CL? Authorised reseller?

Aside from the possibility of a corrupted installation, these are issues that will need to be taken up with CL Customer Service... https://membership.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/customer-services.do

Bob - before proceeding, could you please check in C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink to see whether PhD4 is present?

Cheers - Tony

I went for the $65 dollar "upgrade" and purchased PhotoDirector 4 Ultra, so now I don't have "deluxe" on the computer any more. Deluxe was the same program as Ultra without key editing features. No "People Beautifier" or "Content-Aware Removal". Which ia really the key parts of PhotoDirector. Also, the way they hooked me into getting "Deluxe" for "free" (it was really like $12.00 more) then not giving me the complete software, so I'd want to upgrade to the real version, is MISLEADIND at best.
Good thing I really love the software, just their sales practice almost made me say #@*# you. Asus X79-Deluxe, Intel i7-4930K, EVGA GTX 980ti, G.Skill memory 16GB, Corsair HX1000 PSU, OCZ Vertex4 SSD, OCZ Vector180 480GB, (2)Western Digital Black 1TB(RAID0), Western Digital 2TB, LG Blue Ray Burner, Lite-on DVD Burner, Logitech G19 keyboard, Window

OK -

I'm glad you refrained from using indiscriminate punctuation like that!

In the meantime, I stumbled across this https://membership.cyberlink.com/prog/member/service/index.do?lang=ENU which refers to PhotoDirector 2 Deluxe being a free bonus when you buy Power DVD 12 Ultra. There never was a PhD2! The versions went PhD2011, PhD3 then PhD4... so I'm not sure where PhD2 Deluxe came from!

When you click on the link http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/edms/english/2012/Q4/PhD2-video/phd.jsp it sounds OK... till you realise the information it leaves out!

You're right. That sort of marketing leaves a sour taste.

Tony,

Here is the link http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/introduction_en_GB.html?&r=1
which takes you to PDR 11 Ultimate Suite. Mine came as a Full Package as shown on the web page.
Supplied by Amazon.co.uk. Only reference in Program Files (86x) is to PhotoNow no Photodirector at all.

I hope the about screen is visible

Hi Bob -

Thank you for the screen shot... looks just like mine!

Did you check at C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink to see whether PhotoDirector is present?

On the Amazon site http://www.amazon.com/Cyberlink-PowerDirector-11-Ultimate-Suite/dp/B009716H00/ref=sr_1_10?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1353206644&sr=1-10 it doesn't specifically mention PhotoDirector...

BUT PhD4 is part of Director Suite.

Bit of a mystery till you check that file path. Possibly an installation glitch.

Hi Tony.

The only reference in Program Files (86x)/Cyberlink/ is to PhotoNow not Photodirector.

However, I have found a reference to a Media Suite here: http://www.cyberlink.com/store/director-suite/buy_en_GB.html
I think this may be the answer.

Cheers

You're right Bob -

PhotoDirector should be there.

PhotoNow is from a previous installation of PowerDirector & has nothing to do with PD11 Suite.

Do your installer files look like the attached image? If so, something has gone wrong in the process... in which case you should re-install the whole package.

Cheers - Tony

P.S. Media Suite is a completely different software package then Director Suite

Hi Tony,

I don't have the installation files as shown in your attachment.

My Installation Disc looks like this: see Files on PDR 11 disc.

The only reference to PhotoDirector is shown as heading in attachment Fix/Enhance.

The result on clicking the heading is shown in attachment Advert Panel.

There are obviously several "versions" on the same theme. Although my package cost much less than the CL web site price I have checked the specs on all references to PDR 11 ultimate Suite and none of them mention Photo Director (CL Products web page)

As I already have Photoshop Elements 10 and Paint.net I think I'll have to duck in and out of PD to edit photos.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi,
To get the full compliment of programs Power Director 11 Ultimate, Color Director, Photo Director 4 (full program) you have to buys Director Suite
1 If you purchase Dower Director Ultimate the full set of the suite are extra Purchase. The "Director Suite" is the Power Power director 11 Ultimate + all the others.

Jim

Please provide some proof of this statement that Photo Director 4 (full program) is included with PD11 Ultimate Suite, a CL web page, press release, scan of emailed advertisement, wherever you got the info from.

Thanks

Jim - Thanks for the thwack on the back of the head! I think I needed it. My brain has finally kicked in!

Bob - I was determined that someone was being deceptive, but I was completely wrong. The confusion (for me & probably others) is in the naming & packaging... though now that Jim's given me a poke, I don't know how I missed it before.

There is Director Suite & there is PowerDirector 11 Ultimate Suite, which are almost identical but for the absence of PhotoDirector! http://www.cyberlink.com/products/director-suite/compare_en_GB.html

From Amazon, you've purchased this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyberlink-PowerDirector-11-Ultimate-Suite/dp/B009QVVOCM/ref=sr_1_1?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1353301936&sr=1-1 - still, even if you now purchase PhotoDirector separately you'll still be about £50 ahead!

I suppose I can only apologise for dragging out the discussion when the answer was simple.

Thanks again Jim!

Cheers - Tony

Hi Jl_jJL,
If you got to Cyberlink home page and click on the comparison chart it is listed there. As Tony says there are so many variations of the Packages it gets confusing. The Director Suite is different than the 'Power Director Ultimate' in the inclusion of Modules. I have the Diretor Suite which came with all the full version modules (programs) included.

Jim, Jeff and Tony,

All is now explained, as I said earlier I'll use my other photo editors outside PDR. Thanks to Tony I have one consolation, I saved £2.12p by buying it last week.

Cheers,
Bob
