Upgrade from OEM to Retail?

Hi there,

I have PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 OEM, which came with the Cyberlink Hi-Def Suite. Naturally, I'm getting screwed when it comes to updates such as the latest 3730, which I can't install with my version.

I have tried to upgrade to a Retail version but it won't let me, asking for $99 which I am obviously not going to pay.

Is there a way to upgrade from an OEM Hi-Def Suite to a Retail version, or at least only PowerDVD?

Thanks

Go Here:

http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/cyberstore/order_112_ENU.html

You can upgrade using the "Upgrade to PowerDVD Ultra from 7 Max / Standard / bundled versions".

Not a huge saving, but i am afraid that is as good as it gets.

Thanks. Wow, that's a whole US$20 less.

I think Cyberlink are taking the p*** here with these "Retail Version Only" patches. What do you think would happen if Microsoft only released patches and fixes for "Retail Version Only"? This is a buggy product which produces "internal errors" and even with a measly OEM version I have a right to get a fix for it.

Couldn't agree more, i assumed i was doing something stupid, didn't even occur to me that a non trial version doesn't get product fixes; it's disgraceful.

I got fed up with it too and i'm in the computer industry. After having customers pay $350 for an HD/Blu combo player from LG bundled with an Oe copy of Powerdvd ultra. The install software askes to do a firmware update on the drive and we get stuck needing the retail version to sort crap out after.

My Solution. I bought and tall everyone to buy the Nero Suite & the plug in for HD/Bluray. all the patches and fixes are free. and low and behold even the free OE copy gets free patches

I was considering updating my Nero 7 and getting the plug in but the site said... "Several titles featuring interactive content are currently not supported. Title compatibility will be improved with periodic free updates."

We will see if Nero can get full Blu Ray support before Cyberlink decides to give OEM users a free patch. Let the race begin!

I have the same problem here : I just wanted to activate the SPDIF output (to my 5.1 amplifier). I have "Power DVD 7.3 OEM" from my LG GGC-H20L player, so I purchased ->
PowerDVD 7 Deluxe upgrade (from 7 OEM)
+ Advanced Audio Pack

But the CD-KEY doesn't work.
And if I try to install the downloaded "PowerDVD7_DeluxeUpgrade_Vista.exe", it says I don't have a PowerDVD XP installed !

And why is the download named _Vista ? I never said I was using Vista, I'm using Windows XP btw !

I sent an email to support. That was expensive just to have an error message. It would have been much more faster to download a keygen ... grrr.

? I think you did something wrong there. PowerDVD 7 Deluxe is an inferior version to PowerDVD Ultra. Even your OEM version is better than PowerDVD 7 Deluxe. And the OEM Ultra version can output SPDIF fine, the only problem I have is that Cyberlink doesn't provide updates for it.

What version of PowerDVD Ultra 7 do you have?

My LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Burner drive came with PowerDVD Ultra 7 OEM version 7.3.3104a in the Cyberlink Hi-Def Suite. After popping in an HD DVD title (King Kong) I was prompted to download a critical update which upgraded it to version 7.3.3319.0. Although the latest direct download for my LG OEM version is 7.3.3516. A far cry from 3730 I know,…..

What problem do you have that prompts you to upgrade?

Anyway, if you think we are getting screwed over updates for PowerDVD Ultra 7 OEM just wait until PowerDVD Ultra 8 gets here,….and rumor has it that we will see version 8 soon. The PowerDVD 8 beta is already out.

I have the 8.3.3516b version. Have had numerous issues with discs such as 3:10 to Yuma, Eastern Promises, etc. And obviously don't have Blu-Ray Profile 1.1. They should just call it "trial version", not OEM version. Never seen any company who only provides updates for Retail versions. Ah well, you're probably right and even people who have the 7.3 Retail version will get screwed with version 8.0. So let's wait and see
