Startup and file deletion

When starting PD6, several images are automatically inserted in the workspace. When a project is loaded, one is presented with the option of incorporating these images in one’s project. I have yet to find a need for these images in my project. Is there any way to prevent this annoyance?

When finished with a project, I wish to delete the project and all associated data. I have found no way within PD6 to delete project files, assuming that such a feature would have the desired result. Manual deletion of the .pds file is simple. However, numerous .bmp files are left in the directory C:/Documents and Settings/Owner/Application Data/Cyberlink/Media Cache. This is presumably where PD6 maintains the library. Such files would also have to be manually deleted, either within PD6 (before deleting the project) or using Windows Explorer.

Is there a way to locate the image library on a different drive? I prefer to keep all my data in a single directory on Drive D for easy backup.

Is there a simple alternative to the cumbersome manual deletion process? What do other users do to clean up after a project is safely on a DVD?

Hi,

Method 1.
Open PD
Select File>New Project
PD will open without the Samples in Media Library

Method 2.
Open PD
Click bottom right in the Media Library and drag to top left
You've now highlighted the Sample files
Right Click on one of them
Select either - Remove from Library or Delete permenantly.

Method 3.
File Export option,
Open PD - by clicking on your Project pds file
Select File > Export >Pack Project Materials
This will save the contents of your project to a selected location (browse and create).

You've mentioned an address location that is personal to your own PC - not for all users.
C:\My Documents\ShadowEditFiles perhaps is the directory you're referring to (it's a hidden folder).

The media files displayed in the Media Library are basically what you've used/called into the library.

If the information given answers your points please state it does and how as this will help other users.

Thanks

Dafydd

Dafydd,
Many thanks for your thoughtful suggestions.

Regarding methods 1 & 2, I'll delete the unwanted samples from the library, since the problem arises when opening an existing project.

Regarding method 3, I really have no problem with the export option. My concern is with cleaning up my drive after a project is finally finished. Unlike many others, I have had no problems with production or burning DVDs (no hang up, no error messages) although the process is slow. I've had most success by burning to a Directory for later physical burning of the DVD. For this purpose I've had no problem with Nero! I know, I should not use that word on this Forum!

I'll look into the 'ShadowEditFiles' business. If you should resond to this message, I may be slow in answering. My PC has to go into computer hospital to have extra RAM added and a much larger C: drive.

In the meantime, thanks again for taking the time to help.

Sam
