Applying PD Effects kills PD

Members,

I've read other PD11 users have had similar issues, but this morning it came up & gave me a mighty whack.

Simple project - one clip. Apply any NewBlue effect to Effects track - no problem. Apply PD's (non NewBlue) effects - kills PD. Sent repeated reports to CL.

This is immediately after a fresh install of Director Suite.

Screen capture & DxDiag attached.

Can anyone confirm? or will I just head off and jump through the hoops & loops with Tech Support?

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony

I applied:

NewBlue_AirBrush

NewBlue Mosaic

NewBluePosterize

and

PD Blur

I had no crashes and all worked fine.

Note: I only used the 'standard/free' NewBlue Effects as I have not purchased any of The Essentials 1, 11 or 111 packs.

Maybe try the same Effects as me. ????

Does your system stop working using the same effects as I did?

At least that might isolate which Effects work and those that don't

Tony,

I followed the same steps as in your sample video.

1.) Placed an (.m2ts) AVCHD clip on the track 1 (1920x1080 Bit rate 24.28 mbps, Frame rate: 59.94 fps, Profile: High Profile, Frame type rogressive)
2.) Placed the NewBlue Soft Focus on the effects track
3.) Placed the NewBlue Shadows and Highlights on the effects track.
4.) Placed the NewBlue Motion BLur on the effects track.
5.) Placed the PD Blur on the effects track.

Everything worked as it should. No Blow-Off.
Played the Movie preview
All worked as it should.

Sorry, I could not duplicate your issue.

Steve Best Regards,
Steve

Thank you Steve -

No need to apologise. I'm glad your are working as they should. It just points to an issue with my PD & my PC that others haven't been able to replicate. Thank you for posting your good news!

Bubba - NewBlue Posterize & Mosaic are part of NewBlue Paint Effects. It's a bit confusing because there are "Art" & "Paint" effects.

Neil - in answer to your question, "Which effects cause the crash?", I haven't kept a record... but I know that if I open PD right now and apply any NewBlue effect all will be well. I also know that if I apply ANY stock standard "PD" effect (non NewBlue), then PD will crash... yes - it just did! again and again and again.

The odd thing is I'd be less surprised it it were the other way around.

Cheers - Tony

EDIT: Again we seem to be posting at the same time. But still, I leave my reply up.

Hi Tony,

I assume you are referng to these NewBlue and (non-NewBlue) effects, as being "stacked" on the clip? And that this stacking of a NB and non-NB effect is causing you a crash?
I tried this with a number of differrent combinations, (on an i7 / 8GB / 565GB free space), and did not experience any crashing issue.

If I misunderstood you're procedure or issue, let me/us know, and we'll try again to see if we can confirm a crashing issue when applying effects.

Hi Cranston -

If, by "stacked" you mean applied simultaneously to the clip (not the effects track), then No - none of the effects were stacked.

One clip + one non-NB effect in effects track = crash.
One clip + one non-NB effect applied directly to clip = "Out of system memory" alert.

One clip + one NB effect in effects track = normal function.
One clip + one NB effect applied directly to clip = normal function.

Here's another twist. If I repeat the same procedure - same clip & same non-NB effects in PD10, everything works as it should.

I'm pleased you're not experiencing the same thing!

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony,

A strange bugga-boo you have there, indeed!

I just tried four versions, and none of them crashed my PD11. I suspect some sort of 'pathway conflict' I think the computer nerds call it.

01: Added NB - OK

02: Added PD to NB, stacked. -OK

03: Added PD only - OK

04: Added four PD's stacked - OK

Now I have just tried adding directly to the clip, and same results. No crash. Next, I left the PD effect directly on the clip, and added a NB effect down below in the effects timeline and again no crash.

Sorry Tony!
